New Delhi: Young batter Vaibhav Sooryavanshi created history in the IPL 2026 clash between Delhi Capitals (DC) and Rajasthan Royals (RR) at the Arun Jaitley Stadium on Sunday, May 17. The 15-year-old batter broke the record of smashing the most sixes by an Indian in a single IPL season.
The RR opener needed three maximums to surpass Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) batter Abhishek Sharma’s record of 42 maximums. He smashed his third maximum of the match on the sixth delivery of the fifth over, bowled by Tripurana Vijay.
Sooryavanshi now has 43 maximums to his name in 12 matches this season, and is also RR’s leading run-getter. In the 2024 season, Abhishek smashed 42 sixes in 16 matches. In the list of Indian batters with the most sixes in one IPL season, both openers are followed by Shreyas Iyer, who hammered 39 maximums in 17 matches for the Punjab Kings (PBKS) in 2025.
