Royal Enfield launched the new Himalayan 450 for the Indian market on Friday at the ongoing Motoverse 2023. Along with the launch of the new Himalayan, Royal Enfield has revealed a surprise motorcycle, the Shotgun 650 that will be hitting the Indian Roads soon.
The Royal Enfield Shotgun 650 marks Royal Enfield’s fourth addition to its 650 cc motorcycle range, following the Interceptor, Continental GT and Super Meteor. The Shotgun 650 was first showcased at EICMA 2021 as the SG650 concept and now at the Motoverse 2023, the brand has revealed the production-spec model.
Royal Enfield Shotgun 650 Motoverse Edition
The Shotgun 650 model displayed at the Motoverse 2023 is a special edition variant that will only be available in limited quantities of 25 units and will exclusively be available to people attending the Motoverse 2023. However, this special edition model gives us an idea about how the standard Shotgun 650 is going to look when it hits the Indian market. The special edition Shotgun 650 features a blue colour paint scheme which is then decorated with hand-painted graphics in neon yellow. This Royal Enfield Shotgun 650 Motoverse Edition has been priced at Rs 4.25 lakh (ex-showroom). Price for the standard Shotgun 650 will be revealed closer to when it will be officially launched for the Indian market.
Royal Enfield Shotgun 650 – Engine
The Royal Enfield Shotgun 650 is powered by a 648 cc, air-oil cooled engine that produces 47 bhp and 52 Nm. This is the same unit that is equipped in the Super Meteor 650. It is mated to a 6-speed transmission with a slip and assist clutch.
Royal Enfield Shotgun 650 – Design
The Shotgun 650 is built on the same foundation as the Super Meteor 650 but it still follows a distinctive path. The Super Meteor features a cruiser style with forward-set ergonomics while the Shotgun 650 follows a more neutral riding posture. The showcased Shotgun 650 has been shown with a single seat setup however it will also get a pillion seat that can be manually removed. The handlebar design is also different from the Super Meteor 650 and the footpeg has been placed in the centre, departing from the forward-set arrangement of its cruiser counterpart. Apart from the variations in the riding triangle, the Shotgun 650 boasts subtle differences in its design. Additionally, the fuel tank, alloy wheels, headlamp cowl and exhaust design set it apart from other 650 cc counterparts. Whereas, elements like lighting, switchgear and adjustable levers remain the same as the Super Meteor 650.
