Rohit Sharma Parents In London: A big news is coming for the fans of Rohit Sharma, one of the most successful batsmen in the history of Indian cricket. The third and last match against England to be played on July 19 at the historic ground of Lord’s could be the last match of Rohit Sharma’s ODI career. According to media reports, Rohit’s parents Gurunath Sharma and Purnima Sharma have reached London to witness this last match of their son. After which, speculations are being made that Rohit will be seen playing in the Indian jersey for the last time at Lord’s on Sunday.
Selectors told Rohit the team’s long-term plan
According to media reports, Chief Selector Ajit Agarkar and Head Coach Gautam Gambhir had met Rohit Sharma only last week and discussed about the long-term plan of Team India. The selectors had made it clear that they are not considering Rohit’s name for the ODI World Cup to be held in 2027 and this could be his last international series. The selection committee now wants to focus on the young players, with Yashasvi Jaiswal being groomed for a bigger role as a future opening batsman.
Due to which Rohit Sharma’s parents have reached London and it is believed that they will be present at Lord’s Cricket Ground to watch the last ODI match. However, no announcement has been made yet whether this will be Rohit Sharma’s last match or not, nor has any statement come from BCCI.
The decision was to be taken in the Afghanistan series itself
According to reports, the ODI series against Afghanistan was going to be Rohit’s last series, but due to the half-century he scored in that series, the selectors postponed this decision for some time. However, Rohit’s bat has been completely quiet in the current series against England. After scoring 11 runs in the first ODI, he could score only 26 runs in 47 balls in the second match played in Cardiff. Which ultimately pushed him towards this big decision.
Have already said goodbye to two formats
Rohit Sharma has already said goodbye to two formats of international cricket. He retired from T20 Internationals soon after India won the T20 World Cup title at the Kensington Oval in Barbados on 29 June 2024. After this, in May 2025, he also announced his retirement from Test cricket through an Instagram post. Now at Lord’s he can put a full stop to his journey in the 50 over format.
