BCCI on Friday 25 October announced the 18-member Indian team for the Border-Gavaskar Trophy, which will start from 22 November. Apart from this, the board has also announced the squad for the 4-match T20 series against South Africa to be played from 8 November. 15 players have been selected for this series. Rituraj Gaikwad’s name is not in both these squads. Some fans got angry after seeing him out of both the tours. His anger erupted on BCCI. The fans accused him of bias and politics and said that injustice is being done to him because he plays for Chennai Super Kings.
What did the fans say on Gaikwad’s selection?
Ruturaj Gaikwad has not got a place in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy. However, before the start of the series, he has been given the command of Team India for the two warm-up matches against Australia A. Gaikwad recently captained in the Duleep Trophy and Irani Cup. His team stood second in Duleep Trophy. Had to face defeat at the hands of Mumbai in Irani Cup. During this period he played some good innings.

After this, he also scored 231 runs in two Ranji Trophy matches, which included an inning of 145 runs against Mumbai. Seeing his form and performance, fans are continuously demanding his selection in the team. But when he did not get a place in the team, he accused BCCI of doing politics. Many fans also said that he is not getting selected because of playing for CSK in IPL.

How true are the fans’ allegations?
Rituraj Gaikwad opens in domestic games. He has also batted well in tournaments like Duleep Trophy, Irani Cup and Ranji Trophy. Even while playing for Team India, his performance has been tremendous. Despite this, Abhimanyu Easwaran has been selected in his place as the backup opener. But looking at the statistics of both the players shows that BCCI’s decision is right. Actually, Gaikwad has scored 2513 runs in 35 first class matches at an average of 44, which includes 7 centuries and 13 half-centuries.
Abhimanyu Easwaran has played 99 first class matches, which means he obviously has more experience. He has also scored 7638 runs at an average of 49, which includes 27 centuries and 29 half-centuries. The difference in performance and experience of both can be clearly seen. In such a situation, it can be said that Easwaran’s place is made before Gaikwad. Now let’s talk about the South Africa tour. The Indian team has to play the T20 series from 8 to 15 November, while Gaikwad has currently left for Australia and has to stay there till 1 December. In such a situation, it is not possible for him to go to South Africa.
