Renault Sales Grow 28% In July 2026 – New Duster Sales Down To 512 Units

Renault India reported domestic sales of 3,293 units in July 2026, registering a 27.88% year-on-year (YoY) growth over 2,575 units sold in July 2025. However, sales declined 18.95% month-on-month (MoM) from 4,063 units retailed in June 2026. Despite the monthly dip, Renault’s overall performance this year remains positive, with domestic sales up 63.84% during April-July 2026 and 56.61% during the January-July 2026 period.

The bigger talking point, however, is the performance of the new-generation Renault Duster. Launched with significant anticipation earlier this year, the SUV has witnessed a steady decline in monthly sales, reaching its lowest monthly tally yet at just 512 units in July.

While Duster’s performance remains a concern, Renault’s overall domestic sales continue to show healthy year-on-year growth. The company retailed 16,882 units during April-July 2026, up from 10,304 units in the corresponding period last year. For the January-July period, sales increased to 29,138 units, compared to 18,606 units in 2025.

Duster Sales Decline

Renault’s return to the mid-size SUV segment generated considerable excitement. The Duster nameplate still enjoys strong recall in India and expectations were high that the latest generation would revive the brand’s fortunes. However, sales numbers tell a different story.

Duster started with 1,402 units in March. Followed with 2,359 units in April before dropping to 1,267 units in May, 1,011 units in June and now 512 units in July. Renault even  last month. But July marked the lowest monthly sales since the SUV went on sale. Over the four months since launch, Renault has sold 6,551 units, averaging around 1,310 units per month.

Rivals Continue To Pull Ahead

The contrast becomes even clearer when compared with established rivals. During the January-July 2026 period, Hyundai Creta continued to dominate the segment with 1,09,479 units, followed by Maruti Victoris at 85,246 units, Kia Seltos at 75,346 units and Toyota Hyryder at 62,791 units. Even newer entrants have maintained a stronger sales pace. Tata Sierra has averaged more than 7,100 units per month, while Honda Elevate continues to outperform Duster despite being one of the older products in the segment.

July itself highlighted the gap. Creta regained its usual position after production constraints eased, retailing 18,088 units, while Seltos sold 12,541 units, Victoris 11,334 units, Hyryder 7,187 units and Sierra 6,327 units. In comparison, Duster managed only 512 units, finishing near the bottom of the segment ahead of only Taigun and Kushaq.

Production Focus Shifting?

One possible reason behind Duster’s big decline in sales last month could be production allocation at Renault’s Chennai facility. This facility manufactures Renault and Nissan vehicles for both the Indian market and exports. Production of the has also commenced at the same plant. Tekton has made a stronger start in the market, registering 1,670 units in July 2026. With both SUVs sharing the production facility, it is likely that manufacturing priorities have shifted to support the new Nissan launch.
