Union Minister and Lok Janshakti Party (Ram Vilas) chief Chirag Paswan on Tuesday said his party was fully prepared to contest the 2027 Uttar Pradesh Assembly elections on its own if the situation demanded it.
He said the party would welcome an alliance but was also ready to field candidates in all 403 Assembly constituencies in the state.
In an exclusive interview with ANI, Paswan spoke about his party’s plans for Uttar Pradesh and announced two upcoming events – a major public meeting in Varanasi and the party’s foundation day celebrations in Lucknow on November 28.
“We are 100% prepared for Uttar Pradesh. Our preparations are progressing strongly. We have a major public meeting scheduled in Kashi the day after tomorrow, and this time, we will also celebrate the party’s foundation day on November 28 in Lucknow. I believe that as the elections approach, Lok Janshakti Party (Ram Vilas) will establish itself as a strong contender and a strong alternative in the Uttar Pradesh Assembly elections,” Paswan told ANI.
Asked whether the party would contest the UP elections as part of an alliance, the Union Minister said it was too early to make a definite statement but maintained that the LJP (RV) was ready for every possibility.
“It is too early for me to comment on anything. However, I am prepared for every eventuality. We have a national-level alliance with the NDA, and we are in an alliance in Bihar. I have respected the alliance arrangements in different states. We have MLAs in Jharkhand, and we contested the elections together in Delhi,” he said.
Paswan also pointed to the party’s independent presence in the Northeast, where it contested elections on its own in Nagaland and currently has two MLAs.
“However, in Nagaland, we contested independently and today have two MLAs there. If an alliance arrangement takes shape, that would be a good thing. However, if circumstances demand otherwise, the Lok Janshakti Party (Ram Vilas) is also prepared to contest all 403 Assembly seats in Uttar Pradesh independently,” he said.
The statement comes as political parties step up preparations for the 2027 Uttar Pradesh Assembly elections. The BJP and the Samajwadi Party (SP) are expected to be key contenders, while the Congress is also looking to strengthen its presence in the state.
