The Royal Challengers Bengaluru vs Gujarat Titans (GT) game ended with the hosts coming out victorious, but not without controversy.
The entire RCB camp was furious with the third umpire’s call after Gujarat all-rounder ‘s catch in the removal of Bengaluru captain Rajat Patidar became a major topic of discussion. Virat Kohli, a mainstay of the RCB, even got into a heated argument about the dismissal with an official outside the boundary rope. Veteran bowler Bhuvneshwar Kumar discussed his thoughts on the catch issue at the post-match news conference, stating that he and his colleagues believed the ball had touched the ground.
Bhuvneshwar On Jason Holder’s Catch
Bhuvneshwar, who has taken the most wickets in the IPL 2026 season thus far, stated that the RCB camp thought the ball had touched the ground based on the images shown on the enormous screen. They only wanted the third umpire to consider additional viewpoints before making a final ruling.
“I wasn’t there, but from what I saw, the ball touched the ground. I don’t know what the umpire told them, or if it was within the laws of the game, I have no idea about that. However, we wanted the umpire to take a closer look at it,” Bhuvneshwar told the media after the match.
Bhuvneshwar Addresses RCB’s Loss
This IPL, RCB has not had many batting failures. Virat Kohli gave the Bengaluru team a strong start, but they were dismissed for 155 runs. With nearly four overs remaining, GT managed to chase down the objective. When asked what went wrong for his squad, Bhuvneshwar said that the Titans outperformed the Royal Challengers because it was just a horrible day.
“I wouldn’t say anything went wrong, but rather that they batted well. It often comes down to whether it is a good day or a bad day. We lost the toss and were asked to bat first; we tried our best in both departments, but the result is that we lost.
“In a long tournament of 14 matches, you cannot be perfect in every department in every game. Our batting has been good throughout the tournament-we have scored 200 or more previously. This time, we were not up to the mark, but these things happen. It is about complementing each other; sometimes the bowlers give away 200 runs and the batsmen chase it down without complaint. Today, it was our duty as bowlers to try our best to defend a low score,” he said.
