2. Comments related to Anushka Sharma became an issue

Early in his career, while appearing on the show ‘Koffee with Karan’ in 2011, Ranveer Singh had jokingly asked Anushka Sharma, “Do you want someone to tease you from behind? I am right here.” To this Anushka immediately replied, “Don’t talk to me like that.” Years later, this clip again went viral, after which Ranveer Singh had to face heavy criticism. He later publicly regretted his behavior and apologized.

3. There was an uproar over Ranveer Singh Nude Photoshoot

Ranveer Singh had done a nude photoshoot in 2022, after which a controversy arose. Ranveer Singh was seen completely nude in this photoshoot of ‘Paper’ magazine. After the pictures went viral on social media, he was accused of hurting Indian culture and sovereignty. An NGO and a woman lawyer filed a complaint against him in Mumbai. A case of spreading obscenity was registered against him under sections 292, 293, 509 of IPC and IT Act. During interrogation, Ranveer had clarified that he did not know that these pictures would create such controversy in India.

In the year 2016, Ranveer Singh came into discussion regarding an advertisement controversy. Social media users had accused the promotional hoardings of clothing brand Jack & Jones India of showing women in an objectionable manner. The ‘Padmaavat’ controversy started with rumors of an alleged “dream sequence” between Alauddin Khilji and Queen Padmini in the film. Many organizations including Karni Sena staged violent protests, vandalism and threats accusing the film of distorting historical facts. Later director Sanjay Leela Bhansali clarified that there is no such scene in the film. The film was released in 2018 after Supreme Court approval. Ranveer Singh’s Khilji character was also described by some critics as showing an “extremely cruel and conservative” image of a Muslim ruler.

Ranveer Singh’s ‘Daiva’ controversy started in November 2025, when at the closing event of the International Film Festival of India in Goa, he mimicked the sacred Daiva ritual from Rishabh Shetty’s film ‘Kantara’ and called her a “female ghost”. The Kannada community and many people expressed their displeasure, calling it an insult to religious and cultural sentiments. After huge backlash on social media, Ranveer apologized publicly and said that his intention was only to praise Rishabh Shetty’s performance. Later, an FIR was registered in the matter and the Karnataka High Court directed them to worship at the Chamundeshwari temple, which they did on 26 May 2026.
