Bengal’s Ranji Trophy match against Kerala has been granted no deferred date and the match is scheduled to start on Saturday (October 26) at the Jadavpur University Campus 2 ground in Salt Lake, Kolkata.
The Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB) requested BCCI to defer the match for a couple of days amid the impending Cyclone in West Bengal, but the board denied the request, which means the two teams will have to play on the scheduled date only.
Cyclone Dana struck the Odisha coast on Friday morning. Although the city of Kolkata was spared from the severity of the natural calamity, the entire South Bengal area, including Kolkata, has experienced heavy rainfall since Thursday. The relentless rain continued even on Friday and is expected to continue on Saturday as well.
Both Bengal and Kerala saw their respective previous matches getting marred with rain. Kerala’s encounter against Karnataka had only one day’s play whereas the match between Bengal and Bihar was abandoned without a ball being bowled.
The Kerala team has already been in Kolkata for the past couple of days and is gearing up for the important clash against Bengal. The home team will be missing three key players as Abhimanyu Easwaran, Mukesh Kumar and Abhishek Porel have flown to Australia to represent India A.
The match was originally scheduled to be played at the Kalyani Stadium, but was shifted to the JU Ground in Salt Lake.
