Alaknanda River Flood: Alaknanda and Mandakini rivers are in spate due to heavy rains in Rudraprayag, Uttarakhand. The huge statue of Lord Shiva on the banks of Alaknanda has been submerged, while the Badrinath Highway is closed due to landslides.
Uttarakhand Rain Update: Monsoon has once again started showing its formidable form in Uttarakhand. Due to continuous torrential rains in Rudraprayag district, rivers are in spate, while life has been affected due to landslides in many areas. The most shocking picture has emerged from Belni area, where the water level of Alaknanda river rose so much that the huge statue of Lord Shiva installed on the river bank was completely submerged in water. This scene is also becoming increasingly viral on social media.
Alaknanda and Mandakini in spate, passengers stranded due to closure of highway
Following heavy rains since Sunday night, Alaknanda and Mandakini rivers are flowing above the danger mark. Badrinath Highway has been closed due to landslide in Sirobagad area of Srinagar-Rudraprayag road. Due to this, long queues of vehicles have formed on both sides and passengers are facing a lot of trouble. At the same time, debris and stones are continuously falling from the hill in Banswara area of Kedarnath Highway. The administration has warned that a major accident can happen in this area at any time.

Administration alert, relief and rescue teams deployed
The district administration is in full alert mode amid the rain. Police, disaster management and relief teams have been deployed in sensitive areas. The rising water level of Alaknanda River is being continuously monitored so that immediate action can be taken in case of any emergency. The administration says that the situation in landslide affected areas can change rapidly, hence monitoring and security arrangements are being continuously strengthened.
Important advice issued for people and travelers
District Disaster Management Officer Nandan Singh Rajwar has appealed to the people to avoid going to the banks of rivers and drains and avoid unnecessary travel. Especially the pilgrims going to Badrinath and Kedarnath Dham have been asked to get information about the weather and road conditions before travelling.
The administration has also made it clear that people should only rely on the official advisories of the Meteorological Department and government agencies and should not pay attention to any rumour. If the rains continue, the water level in the rivers may rise further and the situation may become more serious in landslide affected areas.
