Monsoon is now fully active in Maharashtra and Mumbai metropolitan area is being hit the hardest. On Wednesday, torrential rains in Mumbai, Thane, Navi Mumbai, Bhiwandi, Panvel and Ulhasnagar severely affected life. Roads were submerged in water in many areas, traffic came to a standstill for hours and rain-related accidents added to the concern. The Meteorological Department has expressed the possibility of the situation worsening during Thursday’s high tide.
Risk of waterlogging will increase during high tide
According to the Meteorological Department, a high tide of 4.27 meters will occur at 1:54 pm on Thursday. If heavy rains continue at the same time, the possibility of waterlogging and traffic disruption in low-lying areas of Mumbai will increase significantly. Major tide timings for Thursday:
- High tide: 12:56 pm (3.69 m), 1:54 pm (4.27 m)
- Low tide: 6:39 am (0.78 m), 8:03 pm (1.82 m)
More than 100 mm rain in many areas
According to BMC’s automatic rain gauge, heavy rain was recorded in many areas from Wednesday morning to evening.

- Bandra – 92.5 mm
- Vidyavihar – 91 mm
- Cyan – 65.5 mm
Incessant rains resulted in waterlogging and long traffic jams on many major roads.
High voltage wire fell in Bhiwandi
A high voltage wire fell on the road after a short circuit in the power line amid rain on the Tembhavli-Kharbav road in Bhiwandi. Due to waterlogging on the road, fear of electrocution arose among the people. It is a matter of relief that there were no casualties in this incident.
Father dies due to roof collapse in Panvel
A major accident took place amidst rain in Kamothe area of Navi Mumbai. Suresh Lokhande, 45, died while his 12-year-old daughter was seriously injured after a bedroom slab collapsed in a Sai Siddhi Society flat. The local administration has started investigating the matter.
Situation bad in Mumbra and Ulhasnagar
Due to heavy waterlogging on Mumbra-Shilphata road, a car got submerged in water and there was a long jam on the highway. At the same time, water entered many houses due to waist-deep water in Jijamata Colony of Ulhasnagar and people had to suffer huge losses.
In view of the heavy rains and high tide, the administration has appealed to the people to avoid unnecessary travel, stay away from water-logged areas and not go near broken electric wires. According to the Meteorological Department, heavy rains may continue in the Mumbai Metropolitan Region for the next 24 hours.
