The Central Government’s big step towards bringing strictness on the incidents of paper leaks across the country went ahead in the Lok Sabha on Wednesday. Amidst the uproar and heated political debate, the Lok Sabha passed the Anti Paper Leak Amendment Bill by voice vote. However, the atmosphere in the house remained very heated during this period. There was a heated exchange between Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi and the ruling party, due to which the House proceedings had to be adjourned twice. After the bill was passed, Rahul Gandhi alleged that he was not given the opportunity to present his views fully.
Rahul Gandhi’s allegation – ‘My mic can be switched off, students’ voice cannot be switched off’
After the bill was passed, Rahul Gandhi posted on the social media platform ‘X’ saying that he raised the issue of alleged brutality with the students protesting in Delhi in the Parliament and took the name of Home Minister Amit Shah for this. Rahul Gandhi alleges that BJP MPs continuously interrupted him, due to which he could not fully express his views.
He wrote in his post, “You can turn off my mic, but not the echo of the students.” Rahul Gandhi also said that whatever he could not say in the House, he will now put it before the public.

Heated debate in the House regarding allegations against the Home Minister
Rahul Gandhi in the House demanded Home Minister Amit Shah to clarify whether any order was given to open fire on the protesting students. The ruling party MPs expressed strong opposition to this statement and demanded an apology from Rahul Gandhi. Due to the increasing uproar, the proceedings of the Lok Sabha had to be adjourned first till 2:30 pm and then till 3 pm.
Later, when the proceedings began, Congress MPs raised slogans of “let LOP speak”. Meanwhile, Minister of State in the Prime Minister’s Office, Dr. Jitendra Singh presented the government’s stand on the bill and responded to the discussion.
Government enumerates actions, questions raised on Congress figures
Dr. Jitendra Singh said that the government took immediate action in the NEET paper leak case and handed over the investigation to CBI on July 12. He also informed that after the implementation of the 2024 law, 52 FIRs have been registered in cases related to paper leak.
He questioned Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi’s claim of 152 paper leaks in the last few years and crores of students were affected, saying that the basis of these figures is not clear. He also said that the National Education Policy 2020 is an important initiative of the government towards improving the education system.
With the passing of the Anti-Paper Leak Amendment Bill, the government’s intention regarding transparency in the examination system and strict action against cheating and paper leaks has become more clear, while the phase of political allegations and counter-allegations on this issue also seems to be intensifying.
