India’s badminton star PV Sindhu has qualified for the 2026 BWF World Tour Finals, marking her return to the prestigious season-ending tournament after four years.
The Badminton World Federation (BWF) confirmed her qualification today with the date and the venues of the competition as Hangzhou, China, from December 9 to 13.
She qualified in the finals following her impressive performance and scores this season. It was highlighted by titles at the Japan Open Super 750 in July and the Hylo Open Super 500 in Germany.
Her Hylo Open victory earned her 9,200 ranking points, helping her climb to sixth in the latest BWF world rankings and secure qualification for the eight-player tournament.
This qualification and participation in the finals will be her sixth appearance but after a gap of four years which was last in 2021. She was also qualified for the year 2022 but due to injury she couldn’t play the game.
She remains the only Indian woman to have won the women’s singles title at the tournament, having defeated Japan’s Nozomi Okuhara in the 2018 final.
Sindhu in the finals will join along top international shuttlers namely South Korea’s An Se-young, Japan’s Akane Yamaguchi and China’s Wang Zhiyi and Chen Yufei, in the women’s singles competition.
With two titles and a French Open runner-up finish this season, the Indian shuttler will aim to end the year with another major trophy.
