The central government is considering increasing the validity of PUC of BS6 private vehicles. For vehicles less than 6 years old, it can be 1 to 3 years. Pollution checking rules will also be strict.
New Delhi: If you have a private vehicle with BS6 engine, then there is a good news for you. The central government is considering increasing the validity of Pollution Under Control (PUC) Certificate for such vehicles. If this rule is implemented, then owners of new BS6 cars and bikes will not need to renew the PUC certificate every year. According to a Times of India report, the government believes that vehicles with BS6 technology emit much less pollution than older models. Therefore, there may be some relaxation in the rules for these trains.
According to the proposal, the validity of PUC certificate for BS6 vehicles less than 6 years old will be three years instead of one year. At the same time, PUC of 6 to 10 years old BS6 private vehicles will have to be renewed every year. For vehicles older than 10 years, it will be necessary to obtain a new PUC certificate every 6 months. However, this discount will be applicable only on BS6 private vehicles. There is a proposal to increase the validity of PUC to two years for BS6 commercial vehicles up to 6 years old. The same rules as for private vehicles can apply to commercial vehicles older than 6 years.
Pollution checking rules will become more strict
Additionally, the government is preparing to make the pollution testing process more stringent to prevent fake or inaccurate readings. This proposed change comes at a time when the government is also working on a new Electric Vehicle (EV) policy. This policy may include incentives to promote electric and hybrid vehicles. According to reports, schemes like scrappage bonus are also being considered to gradually remove old and more polluting vehicles from the roads.
Petrol and diesel will not be available without PUC
Meanwhile, the Uttar Pradesh government is going to take a big step in the districts of NCR from October 1. Vehicles which do not have PUC certificate will not be given fuel at petrol pumps. This decision has been taken to reduce air pollution. Eight districts of Uttar Pradesh fall in the National Capital Region (NCR). These include Gautam Buddha Nagar (Noida), Ghaziabad, Hapur, Bulandshahr, Meerut, Muzaffarnagar, Baghpat and Shamli. Some districts of Haryana and Rajasthan are also part of NCR.
