Captain Bharat Bhardwaj proposed his partner for marriage in the passing out parade organized at the Combat Army Aviation Training School in Nashik, Maharashtra. Lieutenant General KJS Dhillon (retd) wrote on Dhillon also denied that there were security lapses in this proposal.
The retired Lieutenant General further wrote, “You want a young officer to sacrifice his life for the patriotism but you do not want him to express his love for his fiancee. In the Army we say that if the young man will not do it, then who will? If you do not find any flaw in his professional abilities then do not be so picky about this sacred gesture of love and belonging. Military equipment was displayed in many ‘Know Your Army’ exhibitions across the country. Students and non-military personnel have shown pride and love for the army, so please let the young soldier perform his national duty with pride and honour.

While talking to news agency ANI, KJS Dhillon said, “After the passing out parade, a young officer, a helicopter pilot, proposed to his girlfriend or fiancee. This picture went viral and different types of reactions started coming on it. Some called it a violation of discipline, some called it a security issue while some believed that soldiers should not do this.”
Lieutenant General (retd) further said, “In my view, if we expect so much patriotism from a soldier that he is ready to sacrifice his life, then why question his personal love? If he expresses love through social media or any other medium, it does not lead to any reduction in discipline; it just reflects a youthful spirit. I do not think there was any violation in it. It was an emotional moment, which does not need to be overreacted. We need to let it go.” Should be accepted graciously.”
