Addressing the gathering at the ceremony of conferring honorary doctorates in Bucharest, Romania, President Murmu expressed his heartfelt gratitude to the Rector, the Senate and the University community. Dedicating this honor to his country, he said, “On behalf of 1.4 billion Indians, I humbly… [इस सम्मान को] which is a reflection of the enduring friendship between the people of India and Romania.”
Told education as the biggest strength
Recalling his personal journey, President Murmu described education as the most transformative force in his life. Sharing her experience as a former teacher, she recalled how a single classroom can change the course of an entire community over time. He asserted, “This belief has stayed with me throughout my years of public service: that education is not merely a means to individual advancement, but the surest foundation of a just and inclusive society.”
Emphasis on India-Romania partnership
The President highlighted that the partnership between India and Romania is built on mutual respect, trust and shared democratic values, with academic cooperation as one of its strongest pillars. Recognizing that Romanian institutions have long welcomed Indian students in medicine, engineering and technology, he urged universities in both countries to deepen institutional ties through faculty and student exchange programs as well as joint research projects.
Advice given regarding AI and technology
Addressing global technological change, he urged educational institutions to maintain a strong ethical compass. President Murmu said, “Today, when the world is being transformed by Artificial Intelligence, digital technology and other rapid scientific advances, universities like these have an even greater responsibility to ensure that learning is guided by wisdom, ethics and compassion.”
Directly inspiring the students, he described them as the architects of tomorrow’s world, emphasizing that true success extends beyond individual career milestones to the values one holds. He advised, “You must remain inquisitive in your pursuit of knowledge, have confidence in your abilities and be compassionate in your actions, use your talents to build bridges between cultures and contribute to a more peaceful and prosperous world.”
Highlighting the honour, Rashtrapati Bhavan said in a post on X, “Bucharest University of Economic Studies conferred an Honorary Doctorate on President Draupadi Murmu. She accepted the honor as a reflection of the enduring friendship between the peoples of India and Romania. She urged Bucharest University of Economic Studies and other Romanian academic institutions to deepen collaboration through joint research and faculty and student exchanges.”
