bucharest [रोमानिया]July 23 (ANI): President Draupadi Murmu reached Romania’s capital Bucharest on Thursday as part of her three-nation state visit to Eastern Europe. The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) described the visit as “an important milestone” in further strengthening the long-standing and multifaceted partnership between the two countries.
Romanian Foreign Minister Oana-Silvia Toiu welcomed President Murmu at the airport. In a post on Twitter, External Affairs Ministry spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said, “President Draupadi Murmu @rashtrapatibhvn arrived in Bucharest on a state visit to Romania. She was warmly welcomed at the airport by Romania’s Foreign Minister Oana-Silvia Toiu.”

First visit of an Indian President to Romania in three decades
According to the Ministry of External Affairs, Romania is the last stop of President Murmu’s three-nation tour. The President’s visit from July 23 to 25 is taking place at the invitation of Romania’s President Nicosor Dan. This visit will be the first visit of an Indian President to Romania in three decades.
In Romania, the President will meet President Nicosor Dan, Interim Prime Minister Ilie Bolojan, Senate President Mircea Abrudin, Chamber of Deputies President Sorin Grindianu and members of the Romania-India Parliamentary Friendship Group. She will also address the India-Romania Business Forum and interact with members of the Indian community.
Highlighting the importance of Romania, the Ministry of External Affairs said, “Romania is a valued partner in the EU and with the conclusion of the India-EU Free Trade Agreement, the bilateral economic partnership will further strengthen in the years to come.”
Tribute to Mother Teresa and Gandhi in North Macedonia
Earlier on Wednesday, President Draupadi Murmu, along with her North Macedonian counterpart Gordana Siljanovska-Davkova, visited Mother Teresa’s Memorial House in Skopje to pay tribute to the Nobel Peace Prize winner.
The two leaders visited the memorial in the capital city to honor Mother Teresa, who was born in Skopje in 1910 and lived there until 1928.
Continuing their joint cultural programs in the capital, President Murmu and his counterpart Siljanovska-Davkova also jointly unveiled a statue of Mahatma Gandhi at the Skopje Museum.
Highlighting the significance of the unveiling, Rashtrapati Bhavan said in a post on Twitter, “The President expressed confidence that this statue will become an enduring symbol of the friendship between India and North Macedonia and the shared commitment of both countries towards peace, tolerance and humanity.”
These memorable events followed a series of high-level bilateral and parliamentary meetings held as part of the official visit of the Indian Head of State to Skopje. (ANI)
