The committee formed on Uniform Civil Code in Madhya Pradesh submitted the final report to Chief Minister Dr. Mohan Yadav. Now the bill is likely to be introduced in the Assembly in the monsoon session.
Bhopal. A major step has been taken towards implementing Uniform Civil Code (UCC) in Madhya Pradesh. The high level committee constituted by the state government submitted its final report to Chief Minister Dr. Mohan Yadav on July 13. The Chief Minister expressed gratitude to the chairperson and all the members of the committee for submitting the report within the stipulated time limit.
During this, committee member Prof. Gopal Sharma, Budhpal Singh, Shobha Paithankar and member secretary Ajay Katesaria were present. Committee chairperson Justice (retd) Ranjana Prakash Desai, senior advisor Shatrughan Singh and member Anup Nair could not attend due to personal reasons. The Chief Minister also specially thanked him.
UCC Report Details: Detailed report prepared in three sections
The report submitted by the committee has been prepared in three different volumes.
- The first section contains the recommendations of the committee. In this, suggestions have been given after studying various laws, traditions and social systems applicable in international, national and Madhya Pradesh. A total of 10 chapters are included in this section.
- In the second section, a draft of the proposed bill related to the Uniform Civil Code has been prepared. This format has been made keeping in mind the current laws and rules applicable in Madhya Pradesh. The proposed Bill consists of 4 parts, 404 sections and 7 schedules.
- A detailed description of the public consultation is given in the third section. The committee had invited extensive suggestions at district level, state level and online medium. More than 9.58 lakh suggestions were received in this process. Question-wise, gender-wise and community-wise analysis of these suggestions has also been included in the report.
MP UCC Recommendation: Recommendation to keep Scheduled Tribes out of the scope.
In its recommendations, the committee has recommended keeping Scheduled Tribes out of the scope of the Uniform Civil Code. This suggestion has been given keeping in mind the social and cultural conditions of the state.
Uniform Civil Code MP: Which subjects were studied
The state government had given the committee the responsibility to study personal and family laws including marriage, divorce, maintenance, inheritance, adoption and live-in relationships. While preparing its report, the committee took special care of the social, cultural and economic conditions of Madhya Pradesh. Along with this, suggestions have been prepared to ensure gender equality, maintain respect for traditional religious and social practices and in accordance with constitutional provisions and public policy.
MP UCC Bill: Now Law Department will do further process
The final report presented by the committee has been sent to the Law Department of the State Government. Now necessary examination and refinement of the bill will be done. After this, after the completion of the process of the Senior Secretary Committee, it will be placed for the approval of the Council of Ministers. After the completion of the government process, there is a possibility that the bill related to Uniform Civil Code can be introduced in the Madhya Pradesh Assembly in this monsoon session.
