Prashant Kishor Bankipur: Jan Suraj chief Prashant Kishor will contest the Bankipur assembly by-election for the first time. Know the reason behind BJP’s entry into the stronghold, the caste equation of the seat, the electoral challenges and why this contest is considered important for Samrat Chaudhary.
Bankipur By Election: Election strategist turned leader Prashant Kishor himself is going to contest elections for the first time. Jan Suraj Party has made him the by-election candidate from the famous Bankipur assembly seat of Patna. After being declared the candidate, Prashant Kishore accepted it, calling it his responsibility towards the people of Bihar and Jan Suraj. This by-election is being held because the seat has become vacant after senior BJP leader Nitin Naveen was elected as Rajya Sabha member.
Political analysts are also keeping an eye on this contest because Bankipur has been considered a strong stronghold of BJP for a long time. In such a situation, the question is not only about victory or defeat, but also about the changing political direction of Bihar.

Why did Prashant Kishor enter BJP’s stronghold?
Jan Suraj Party did not get the expected success in the 2025 Bihar Assembly elections. The party’s vote share was around 3.34 percent and most of the candidates could not even save their deposits. Prashant Kishore himself did not contest that election. He later publicly admitted that not contesting the elections was a strategic mistake.
In this background, Bankipur by-election is being considered as an opportunity for his political comeback. If he performs strongly on this seat, Jan Suraj may get a new identity in the state politics. In case of defeat, questions regarding the future of the party may become deeper.
Bankipur’s caste equation and the challenge of victory
There are approximately 3.80 lakh voters in Bankipur Assembly. Here Kayastha, Vaishya, Rajput, Brahmin, Bhumihar, Dalit, Yadav, Muslim and Koeri-Kurmi communities play an important role in deciding the electoral equation. However, the figures are challenging for Prashant Kishor. In the 2025 assembly elections, Jan Suraj candidate had received around 7,700 votes, while BJP candidate Nitin Naveen had received around 98 thousand votes. That means there was a big difference between the two.
Despite this, political experts believe that this time Prashant Kishor will try to make issues like development, urban problems and alleged voter dissatisfaction the election agenda. However, it will be interesting to see whether these issues make a dent in the BJP’s traditional vote bank or not.
Why is this by-election considered important for Samrat Chaudhary?
Bankipur by-election is not being considered as the election of only one assembly seat. This is the first big electoral test for BJP under the leadership of Samrat Chaudhary after becoming the Chief Minister. Political analysts believe that if BJP retains this seat, it will send a message that the party’s traditional support base remains strong. At the same time, the opposition is looking at this election by linking it to the public opinion towards the government and the acceptance of the leadership. This is the reason why the Bankipur by-election is now becoming not just a fight for one seat, but also a test of Bihar’s upcoming political strategy and support base.
