Poland’s Deputy Foreign Minister described PM Modi as a respected world politician and said that Putin pays attention to what he says. He claimed that it was PM Modi who had stopped Putin from using nuclear weapons in 2022 and he can end the war.
PM Modi’s influence on Putin
New Delhi [भारत]July 15 (ANI): Poland’s Deputy Foreign Minister, Władysław Teofil Bartoszewski has praised Prime Minister Narendra Modi and said that Russian President Vladimir Putin pays attention to what the Indian Prime Minister says to him. He also said that PM Modi had played a role in stopping President Putin from using tactical nuclear weapons in Ukraine in late 2022. “Prime Minister Narendra Modi is a very respected and very well-known world politician, and India has had long-standing relations as a non-aligned nation with the Russian Federation and before that with the Soviet Union. President Putin really pays attention to what Prime Minister Modi says to him,” he said at a press briefing.
The Polish leader said that PM Modi can influence to end the Russia-Ukraine war. He said, “I mentioned the role played by Prime Minister Modi in preventing Putin from using tactical nuclear weapons in Ukraine in late 2022. But it is true, Prime Minister Modi is one of the few people who can actually put some pressure and influence on President Putin, and this is clearly something that India can do to prevent this conflict.”
India’s stance on West Asia conflict
On India’s stance on the West Asia conflict, Bartoszewski said India’s position is correct. He said, “Because you are a big country, an important country, and you benefit from free access to goods, including oil, and you are very dependent on oil and gas from the Gulf. Poland is still maintaining contacts with Iran… We informed them that our preferred solution is a diplomatic solution. So we do the same thing that Prime Minister Modi does. We try to talk logically, but I would say the impact is marginal.”
Putin praised India
The war between Russia and Ukraine started in February 2022. Putin last month praised India as a “great country” and defended New Delhi’s independent foreign policy, while taking a dig at efforts by the United States to pressure India on cooperation with Russia, saying such moves are “harmful” to bilateral and international relations. Addressing the media at the St. Petersburg Economic Forum, Putin said, “We are glad that India is developing its relations with all countries. It is a great country.”
Praising the world’s largest democracy and a thriving economy, Putin said, “It is natural that it (India) develops its economy in accordance with its interests with the countries it considers necessary.”
He further said, “The US is trying to put pressure on India, for example, when it comes to cooperation with Russia. But putting pressure on Narendra Modi is harmful for international relations and bilateral relations. It does not matter where this pressure comes from.”
On India’s economic growth under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, President Putin said, “India is one of the leading economies in the world that shows the highest rate of economic growth. This is not something that has happened suddenly. It is the result of the hard work that the government is doing under the leadership of Prime Minister Modi.” He further highlighted that New Delhi and Moscow have a special privileged strategic partnership.
