Bihar Highway Project: In the Cabinet Committee meeting chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, a big project for Bihar has been given the green signal. The government has approved four-laning of Khagaria-Purnia section of NH-31 and NH-231. This 143.529 kilometer long highway will cost Rs 3936.05 crore and will be built on BOT (toll) mode.

Big benefit to Khagaria, Bhagalpur, Katihar and Purnia
- According to the Cabinet Committee, the upgrade of this highway will eliminate the problem of sharp turns, poor design and jams in congested areas of the road in Khagaria, Bhagalpur, Katihar and Purnia districts.
- Under this project, a new 6.729 km long greenfield bypass will also be built for Purnia city. After the completion of the project, the travel time will reduce to about two hours, which will not only save people’s time but will also increase the mileage of vehicles and make the journey safe. This will also give impetus to the socio-economic development of the area.
There will be direct connectivity in Bihar
- This project will provide direct connectivity to important economic, social and logistics centers of Bihar.
- Additionally, this corridor will also be connected to 5 PM Gati-Shakti economic nodes (1 textile cluster, 2 mega food parks, 2 fishing seafood parks) and 11 logistics nodes (4 major railway stations, 1 airport, 4 national highways, 2 state highways).
- This will speed up the movement of goods and passengers in the entire region.
