Before landing in Jakarta, two fighter aircraft of the Indonesian Air Force, F-16 and Sukhoi-30, escorted Prime Minister Modi’s aircraft. Both fighter jets were seen flying with PM Modi’s plane in the clear blue sky. It is being considered a symbol of respect and welcome from Indonesia.

Before reaching Jakarta, an F-16 and a Sukhoi-30 of the Indonesian Air Force joined Prime Minister Modi’s plane and kept escorting it till the landing. Such escort missions are carried out in honor of a foreign head of state or government and are also considered a sign of strong relations between the two countries.

Features of F-16 and Sukhoi-30

The F-16 is a single-engine, highly agile fighter aircraft developed in the United States. It has been used by the air forces of many countries of the world for the last several decades. The Sukhoi-30 is a twin-engine, two-seat multirole fighter jet developed in Russia. Russia and America have been each other’s main rivals during the Cold War era, but today fighter aircraft from both countries are part of the Indonesian Air Force.

The Indian Air Force also has several squadrons of Sukhoi-30MKI. This is a special version of the Sukhoi-30, which has been designed as per the operational requirements of India and is among the main forces of the Indian Air Force.

Prime Minister Modi said that in the year 2018, India and Indonesia had elevated their relations to ‘Comprehensive Strategic Partnership’, which has benefited the people of both the countries. He said that during the visit he will discuss with President Prabowo Subianto to enhance cooperation in various fields and further strengthen the strategic partnership.

Will also visit Prambanan temple complex

Prime Minister Modi said that he will also visit the Prambanan temple complex in Yogyakarta along with President Prabowo Subianto. According to him, the visit will help in further strengthening the historical and cultural ties between India and Indonesia. He also said that during his stay in Indonesia, he is also excited to meet and interact with the Indian community living there.

Cooperation on BrahMos missile system is also increasing

Defense relations between India and Indonesia are also continuously strengthening. In March, Indonesia announced that it had signed an agreement with India to purchase the BrahMos cruise missile system. Earlier in 2022, the Philippines became the first foreign country to purchase BrahMos missile system with a deal worth about $375 million. Now the increasing defense cooperation with Indonesia is being considered an important step towards strengthening the strategic partnership between the two countries.
