PM Modi changed commissioner for Sonam Wangchuk’s arrest: Sanjay Singh’s allegation. Sanjay Singh Alleges PM Modi Changed Delhi Police Chief To Arrest Wangchuk

AAP MP Sanjay Singh alleged that PM Modi changed Delhi Police Commissioner for the arrest of Sonam Wangchuk. Wangchuk, who was on fast for 21 days against the paper leak, was forcibly taken to the hospital, on which the opposition has cornered the government.

New Delhi [भारत]July 18 (ANI): Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) Rajya Sabha MP Sanjay Singh on Saturday alleged that Prime Minister Narendra Modi replaced the Delhi Police Commissioner to ease the arrest of climate activist Sonam Wangchuk ahead of the proposed Parliament march on July 20. The Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) on Friday appointed senior IPS officer Anurag Kumar as New Delhi Police Commissioner in place of Satish Golcha.

Speaking in a self-recorded video message, Sanjay Singh alleged that 59-year-old Sonam Wangchuk was on a hunger strike for 21 days, raising the voice of lakhs of youth affected by the alleged paper leak. He said, “59-year-old Sonam Wangchuk has been on hunger strike for the last 21 days. She is risking her life to raise the voice of lakhs of youth of the country. The voice of those youth who were ruined by 93 paper leaks, who were helpless, and there was no one to raise their voice.”

Sanjay Singh made serious allegations against the government

Singh further said, “The Prime Minister knew that this voice would be very loud. So, he replaced the Delhi Police Commissioner and appointed a Police Commissioner who could arrest Sonam Wangchuk. She was forcibly removed from Jantar Mantar and admitted to the hospital… He had called upon the youth, MPs and MLAs to gather at Jantar Mantar on the 20th and march towards Parliament.”

The AAP leader also alleged that the government ignored Wangchuk despite him being on hunger strike for 21 days. Singh said, “The Prime Minister of India has not talked to him for 21 days. He does not even consider it necessary to tweet an appeal to end the hunger strike. No representative of the government comes to talk to him.”

He also claimed that Cockroach Janata Party (CJP) founder Abhijit Dipke has been detained and alleged that the government was using force to suppress the protests. Singh said, “I appeal to the youth of the country to support Sonam Wangchuk and not let this movement weaken.”

His comments came after Wangchuk was taken to Safdarjung Hospital in Delhi on Saturday morning. The climate activist is conscious, his vital parameters are stable, and he has been admitted to the emergency ward under medical supervision.

Opposition parties criticized the government

Furthermore, reacting to these incidents, Samajwadi Party spokesperson Dr Ashutosh Verma alleged that despite Wangchuk’s long hunger strike, no representative of the government visited him. Verma said, “I think it is unfortunate that the government and no one responsible from the government side has come for him till now, and today his condition has worsened. He was supposed to hold a big rally on the 20th; removing him from there is a sign of a scared government.”

He further said, “If the voice of the youth and the public is not heard in this country, then whose voice is being heard? This is understandable. The arrogant government of the Bharatiya Janata Party has now surrendered before Sonam Wangchuk.”

This action of the police was strongly criticized by many opposition leaders. AAP leaders Manish Sisodia, Sanjay Singh and Saurabh Bhardwaj alleged that the government was suppressing peaceful protests, while Trinamool Congress leader Sagarika Ghosh and Samajwadi Party MP Dimple Yadav also condemned the action.

Delhi Police gave clarification

According to sources, Wangchuk is conscious, his vital parameters are stable, and he has been admitted under medical observation in the emergency ward of Safdarjung Hospital. Delhi Police said Wangchuk was shifted to the hospital on the directions of the Delhi High Court and on medical advice due to his deteriorating health. Police said protesters attempted to disrupt the process, resulting in a minor disturbance, but added that maximum restraint was exercised. DCP New Delhi Sachin Sharma later said that Wangchuk has been shifted to an appropriate government hospital for medical intervention and is under medical observation.

Announcement to continue the movement

CJP founder Abhijit Dipke alleged that the police took away Wangchuk forcibly and claimed that he was attacked when he was trying to reach the protest site. CJP chief spokesperson Saurav Das also alleged that Dipke was stopped by the Delhi Police and claimed that students were lathicharged at the protest site. There was no immediate official reaction to these allegations.

CJP workers also demanded the resignation of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. CJP founder Abhijit Dipke said, “If they think that taking Sonam sir will end the movement, they are wrong. We will stay here and march to Parliament on July 20. Till now we were demanding the resignation of Dharmendra Pradhan, but after this despicable act, now we will demand the resignation of Narendra Modi.”

Wangchuk is on a hunger strike demanding the resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan over alleged nationwide examination irregularities, including the NEET paper leak controversy. On Thursday, the Delhi High Court had directed that his medical condition be monitored daily and any necessary medical intervention provided. (ANI)
