Raipur. With the basic mantra of “We have created, we will cherish” Chhattisgarh government is continuously working for rural development and welfare of the poor. Under the leadership of Chief Minister Vishnu Dev Sai, the state government has registered significant progress towards rapidly completing the resolution of Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (Rural) taken at the beginning of its tenure.
During the last two and a half years, construction of more than 10 lakh 60 thousand houses has been completed in the state under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (Rural). Chhattisgarh has achieved the first position in the entire country by completing more than 6 lakh houses in the financial year 2025-26 alone.
Chhattisgarh PM Awas Yojana: Construction of more than 1600 houses completed daily
The pace of construction work under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana has remained constant. At present more than 1600 rural houses are being completed every day in the state. Not only this, the construction of about 2000 houses was completed every day between April last year and October 2025. Due to this fast pace of housing construction in rural areas, Chhattisgarh has become one of those states in the country where the highest number of Prime Minister’s houses are being constructed.
Historic decision to build 18 lakh houses was taken in the first cabinet
Chief Minister Vishnu Dev Sai had taken an important decision to construct more than 18 lakh houses for poor families in the first cabinet meeting held the very next day after taking charge of the government. Of the 18 lakh 12 thousand 742 houses approved by the government, 2 lakh 46 thousand 215 incomplete houses, 6 lakh 33 thousand 438 houses of the permanent waiting list of the year 2011, 8 lakh 19 thousand 999 houses of Awas Plus list and 47 thousand 90 houses of Mukhyamantri Awas Yojana (Rural Housing Justice Scheme) are included.
PM Janman Yojana and new houses being built in Naxal affected areas also
The state government is not limited to only general category beneficiaries. Under Pradhan Mantri Janman Yojana, 33 thousand 601 houses are being constructed in forest areas. Apart from this, construction of 15 thousand additional houses is also going on through a special project in the former Naxal affected areas, so that permanent houses can be provided to the families of remote and deprived areas.
Awas Plus 2.0 Survey: New eligible families will also get benefits
Under “Awas Plus 2.0-2024”, a survey of such poor families who still have kutcha houses or are deprived of housing facilities has been conducted by the Panchayat and Rural Development Department. The process of bringing eligible families identified in the survey under the ambit of Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana is progressing rapidly, so that more and more needy families can get permanent houses.
An amount of more than Rs 26 thousand crores is gaining momentum
The government has so far provided an amount of Rs 26 thousand 908 crore to speed up the housing construction campaign. Through this amount, not only the incomplete houses inherited from the previous government are being completed, but newly sanctioned houses are also being constructed at a rapid pace. Working in mission mode, the dreams of thousands of families of having permanent houses are being realized by the Rural Development Department.
Women self-help groups also become the strength of housing construction campaign
To give the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana the form of a mass movement, women self-help groups have also been linked to this campaign. In rural areas, women are making important contribution in housing construction by playing the role of Dealer Didi and Queen Mistry. With this initiative, thousands of women are becoming financially empowered and moving towards becoming ‘Lakhpati Didi’. Atal Digital Suvidha Kendras established in villages have further accelerated the construction work by making payments and small financial transactions easier.

Chief Minister Vishnu Dev Sai said that the promise made by his government in the first cabinet meeting to provide permanent houses to the poor families of the state is being fulfilled with full commitment. He said that the construction of more than 10 lakh 60 thousand rural houses in two and a half years is proof that the government is living up to its resolve and public trust. He says that it is the priority of the government to provide safe and respectable housing to every poor and needy family.
