Pitampura-Shalimar Bagh Road Project: Bulldozer runs on illegal tomb built on the way. Delhi Govt Demolishes Illegal Shrine For Pitampura Shalimar Bagh Road

The Delhi government demolished an illegal tomb built in the middle of the road under the Pitampura-Shalimar Bagh road widening project. According to the Chief Minister’s Office, this action has been taken under the government’s zero-tolerance policy against illegal encroachment.

The Delhi government on Tuesday demolished an illegal tomb built in the middle of the road as part of a road widening project connecting Pitampura and Shalimar Bagh. This information has been given according to the Chief Minister’s Office (CMO).

The action was taken to facilitate the government’s campaign against illegal encroachment and the road widening project aimed at easing traffic movement on the major thoroughfare. According to the CMO, the Delhi government has adopted a zero-tolerance policy against illegal construction and encroachment on government land.

Road widening work is currently underway on the main road connecting Pitampura and Shalimar Bagh, and the government says the project aims to ensure a smooth and hassle-free passage for commuters. The demolition drive was part of the government’s broader effort to remove illegal structures obstructing public infrastructure projects and improve road connectivity in the national capital.

Action intensified after Malviya Nagar fire

Meanwhile, since June 1, authorities have demolished 94 illegally constructed buildings and sealed 114 others for violating building bylaws and safety norms. According to the Delhi government, the enforcement drive gained momentum after the Malviya Nagar fire tragedy of June 3. Since then, 63 buildings have been demolished, with the largest action in a single day occurring on June 3, when 22 structures were razed.

Authorities also sealed 97 buildings in this period, including 79 properties in a single day on June 7. Revenue department officials inspected 124 sites in 13 districts of Delhi and took action wherever violations were found.

Many agencies are taking action together

The Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD), Delhi Development Authority (DDA) and other agencies are jointly carrying out the demolition, sealing and inspection operations. Chief Minister Rekha Gupta has said that the government is taking strict action against unauthorized construction, encroachment and violation of fire safety norms, and is also working on setting up a long-term mechanism to stop such illegal activities.

Considerations for third-party insurance for buildings

The government is also considering introducing a third-party insurance framework for buildings and public utility establishments, under which insurance coverage will be linked to compliance with structural and safety standards.

DDA also tightened its belt

The DDA has also strengthened enforcement against illegal construction on its lands, directing officials to identify buildings with major deviations from the approved plans and initiate strict action. Architects found responsible for serious violations may be blacklisted, while flying squads and quick response teams have been asked to intensify enforcement in development and land-pooling areas.
