Petrol-diesel rates
Government oil companies (Oil PSUs) have not made any change in the prices of petrol and diesel today i.e. Thursday, 28 May 2026. It is a matter of relief for the common consumers that this morning there is no additional burden on their pockets and the fuel prices remain the same in the market. However, if we look at the record of the last 11 days, the general public has got a big shock of inflation. As soon as the assembly elections of five states ended, oil companies have increased the prices 4 times in just 11 days. Due to this sharp increase, petrol has become costlier by ₹ 7.35 and diesel by ₹ 7.82 per liter in Delhi alone. At the same time, the price of petrol in Kolkata has crossed ₹ 113, while diesel is coming very close to ₹ 100.
Crisis increased due to inflation of crude oil
International conditions are the biggest reason behind this rise in fuel prices in the domestic market. After the start of the war in Iran, there has been a huge jump in the prices of crude oil in the global market, due to which crude oil has become expensive by about 50 percent at the international level. Due to this global crisis, the financial pressure on Indian oil companies has increased a lot. According to an estimate, due to the cost of crude, government oil companies are incurring huge losses of about Rs 1,380 crore every day on selling petrol, diesel, LPG and jet fuel. Under the pressure of these losses, companies have been forced to continuously increase prices.
