Ram Charan and Janhvi Kapoor-starrer Pedi hit theatres on June 4 with paid previews on June 3 amid high expectations. While the film received mixed response from critics and audiences, it enjoyed an impressive box office start and strong numbers over its opening weekend. However, with the first week almost over, the movie’s momentum appears to be slowing down.

Peddi box office collection: How did Ram Charan starrer perform on day 8?

According to trade tracking portal Sacnilk, Peddi has raked in Rs 6.30 crore net in India on Thursday. The film witnessed weekday drop as compared to its previous day earnings of Rs 7.55 crore. With the latest figures, Peddi has collected Rs 193.55 crore net in India and its domestic gross collection has now reached 229.95 crore.

Peddi has surpassed Akshay Kumar’s Bhooth Bangla?

The film has remained one of the strongest performers at the box office and is now less than 8 crore away from the Rs 200 crore net milestone in India. It has already become the highest-grossing South Indian and Telugu film of the year, and also overtaken Akshay Kumar’s Bhooth Bangla’s Rs 181.85 crore net domestic collection.

Peddi is penned and helmed by Buchi Babu Sana, backed by Venkata Satish Kilaru under Vriddhi Cinemas, co-produced by Ishan Saksena under IVY Entertainment, and presented by Mythri Movie Makers and Sukumar Writings. The sports action drama stars Ram Charan, Janhvi Kapoor, Shiva Rajkumar, Jagapathi Babu, Divyenndu and Boman Irani.

How did Peddi land in controversy?

While initial reviews appreciated the film for its narrative, criticism soon followed over Janhvi Kapoor’s portrayal. Addressing the backlash and acknowledging the feedback, director Buchi Babu Sana made an apology statement on X, confirming that changes would be implemented to the film currently playing in theatres.

“As a filmmaker, I believe cinema should entertain, inspire, and connect with audiences. It should never make anyone feel uncomfortable or disrespected. We have heard the feedback regarding certain scenes in Peddi and have taken it seriously. I have always had immense respect for women, both on and off screen, and it was never our intention to objectify or disrespect any female character. If any part of the film has been perceived that way, we respect those sentiments, understand the concerns being raised, and sincerely apologise,” read the statement.
