According to the legend, after the nectar came out from the churning of the ocean, Lord Vishnu took the form of Mohini to confuse the demons. Also created many Apsaras. The demons were fascinated by those nymphs and took them to the underworld. After the end of the Devasura war, Lord Vishnu destroyed the remaining demons so that the gods could obtain the nectar.
After this, after reaching the underworld, Lord Vishnu destroyed the demons and freed the Apsaras. Then those Apsaras became fascinated by the form of Vishnu and after doing severe penance of Lord Shiva, they asked for Shri Hari as their husband. To fulfill the wishes of his devotees, Lord Shiva allowed Lord Vishnu to stay in the underworld for some time.

During their stay in the underworld, many sons were born from the union of those Apsaras and Lord Vishnu. Since their mothers were formerly under the influence of demons. Therefore all the sons developed demonic tendencies. Being extremely powerful and cruel, he created havoc in all three worlds. The gods and sages were troubled by their atrocities.
After this, to pray to the gods and protect the religion, Lord Shiva took the form of a bull. Lord Shiva reached the underworld in the form of a bull and started killing the sons of Lord Vishnu with his horns. Seeing this, Lord Vishnu became angry and a fierce war broke out between the two. There was a war between the two for a long time, but no decision could be taken. In the end, Lord Vishnu was freed from the bondage of his attachment by the nymphs.
As soon as Lord Vishnu was freed from the bondage of attachment, he came to know why Mahadev had taken the form of a bull. Then Lord Vishnu praised Mahadev and accepted his mistake. Later, on the advice of Lord Shiva, Shri Hari again returned to Vaikuntha Lok.
