Sagar Sharma, accused in the Parliament security lapse case, has got 30 days interim bail from Delhi’s Patiala House Court on the death of his father. Sagar has been granted this bail to complete the rituals of his father’s thirteenth day.
New Delhi [भारत]July 21 (ANI): Delhi’s Patiala House Court has granted 30-day interim bail to Sagar Sharma in view of the demise of his father. He is an accused in the Parliament security lapse case of December 2023.
Additional Sessions Judge (ASJ) Amit Bansal granted interim bail to Sagar Sharma after considering the arguments and application made by the accused’s lawyer. ASJ Bansal ordered on July 17, “Without commenting on the above submissions, interest of justice and merits of the case, the applicant/accused Sagar Sharma is granted interim bail for 30 days from the date of release on a personal bond of Rs 50,000 and one surety of like amount.”
Bail was sought for father’s last rites
Sagar Sharma had sought interim bail of 2 months after the death of his father. Advocate Somarjun VM appeared on behalf of accused Sagar Sharma.
It was argued that the applicant is in custody in this case since 14.12.2023; He is the only earning member of his family. Her father Roshan Lal Sharma unfortunately passed away due to cancer on 14.07.2026, and his thirteenth rituals are scheduled to take place on 22.07.2026.
He has stated that the applicant’s family now consists of his mother and his sister. Counsel for the accused argued that though the cremation has already been done, the applicant, being the only son, has to perform further rituals and puja ceremonies etc. including the Thirteenth rituals.
He also argued that the applicant is the only male member of his family and his role is important not only to provide immediate care and support to his mother but also to ensure her physical and emotional well-being to overcome this difficult time.
Delhi Police also agreed
Delhi Police Special Public Prosecutor (SPP) Akhand Pratap Singh said that the applicant can be granted interim bail on humanitarian grounds and the Special Cell of New Delhi has verified the fact of his father’s death on 14.07.2026.
He further said that interim bail should be granted only for a limited period and strict conditions should be imposed.
The court granted bail on these conditions
While granting bail, the court imposed conditions, which include that the applicant/accused shall not make any inducement, threat or promise to any witness or person familiar with the facts of the case and shall not try to tamper with any evidence.
It is also directed that the accused shall not misuse the liberty of interim bail in any manner and shall not flee from justice.
The applicant/accused shall not leave India without the prior permission of the trial court. The applicant shall give his address and mobile number in an affidavit to the court during the period of interim bail as well as to the concerned investigating officer within 2 days of his release from custody.
