The havoc of speed on the roads of Delhi has once again brought sorrow for two happy families. Two cousins lost their lives in a tragic road accident that took place on Ashok Road in Thana Parliament Street area late on Monday night.
This accident happened when both the brothers were returning home after watching the IPL match.
According to information received from the police, the deceased have been identified as 20-year-old Yagya Bhatia and 14-year-old Abhav Bhatia. Both the boys, living in Ashok Nagar, Delhi, were cousins. Yagya was a BSc student while Abhav was studying in school. The incident took place on Monday night at around 10:30 pm.
Police station Parliament Street received a PCR call about a fatal accident between a motorcycle and a goods vehicle at night. The accident took place near Mahadev Road T-point in front of PNB Complex on Ashok Road. When the police reached the spot, two boys were lying unconscious on the road. He was immediately taken to the hospital, where doctors declared him dead. After this, the District Crime Team was called by the police and forensic investigation of the incident site was conducted. Last conversation with father and that terrible moment
Before the accident, younger brother ‘Abhaav’ was talking on the phone with his father. Before the accident, he had told his father, “Papa, we will reach home in just half an hour.” Who knew that this would be the last conversation between father and son.
Initial investigation and police action
As soon as information about the accident was received, the Delhi Police team reached the spot and both were taken to the hospital, where doctors declared them dead. Senior police officials say that considering the initial investigation and the conditions of the incident site, it clearly appears to be a case of ‘hit and run’. The collision was so severe that the driver of the vehicle managed to escape from the spot.
Police is examining CCTV footage
Police said that based on the statement of an eyewitness, a case has been registered under relevant sections. The vehicle that caused the accident has been identified and efforts are on to nab its driver. Police are also closely examining the footage of CCTV cameras installed on Ashok Road and all the roads around it. It is believed that due to the road being empty at night, the speed of the vehicle must have been quite high.
wave of mourning in the family
The joy of the IPL match and the excitement of returning home turned into mourning in a moment. The news of Yagya and Abhav’s death has shocked the entire family. The victim’s family is in bad condition and crying. This incident once again raises serious questions on the increasing incidents of carelessness and ‘hit and run’ on the roads of Delhi at night.
