Due to continuous poor performance of Pakistan cricket team in Test cricket, Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has taken a big decision. According to reports, the team’s current Test captain Shan Masood has been removed from his post. In his place, T-20 team captain Salman Aga will be appointed as the new Test captain. The record of Pakistan’s Test team under the captaincy of Shan Masood has been very disappointing, due to which the board is going to make this change.
Shan Masood removed from captaincy
Shan Masood’s performance as Test captain was nothing special. Out of the last 16 Test matches, Pakistan team could win only 4 matches and had to face defeat in 12 matches. Recently, Pakistan also had to face a shameful defeat of 0-2 in the foreign series against Bangladesh. After this defeat, the team’s hopes of reaching the World Test Championship (WTC) final are almost over. Pakistan is currently ranked eighth in the WTC 2025-27 cycle.
On the Bangladesh tour, Pakistan was expected to win the series and strengthen its position in the WTC points table. But taking advantage of the home conditions, Bangladesh made a clean sweep of the series by winning both the test matches. This defeat forced the PCB to make changes in the captaincy. Shan Masood was given the Test captaincy two years ago, but during his tenure, Pakistan’s Test team looked even weaker.
Big responsibility on Salman Aga
Under the leadership of PCB Chairman Mohsin Naqvi, the board has decided to hand over the command of the Test team to Salman Aga. Agha is currently the captain of Pakistan’s T20 team and is performing the responsibility of vice-captain in ODI. Even in Test format, his performance is considered better than Shan Masood. The board had options like Shaheen Afridi and Babar Azam, but considering the current situation, Salman Aga was considered the best option.
