The passenger car industry in Pakistan is in complete shambles with less than 5,000 units sold in October 2023 due to supply chain disruptions and low demand.
According to data from the industry body Pakistan Automotive Manufacturers Association (PAMA), merely 4,850 units of passenger cars were sold in October 2023, resulting in a 24.34% month-on-month (m-o-m) decline from 6,410 units sold in September 2023.
Also, there was a fall of 56.42% year-on-year over 11,129 units sold in October 2022. The volume of non-PAMA members is not included here.
The top-selling models include the Suzuki Alto, Suzuki Swift, Suzuki Bolan, Suzuki Cultus, Toyota Corolla, Toyota Yaris, Honda City and Honda Civic.
As per media reports from Pakistan, the decline in car sales can be attributed to supply chain disruptions, which resulted in certain automakers temporarily halting operations at their plants.
Besides, a rise in car prices, due to currency depreciation, higher taxes and expensive auto financing, has negatively impacted demand.
