Jajpur: A surprising case has come to light from Jajpur district of Odisha. Here the police have dug out the body of a 19-year-old newlywed bride from the courtyard of her in-laws’ house. It is alleged that the woman was murdered and buried quietly. The deceased woman has been identified as Pramila Das. Only two months ago, she was married to 24-year-old Ranjan Kumar Das, resident of Dandasana village of Jenapur police station area. Pramila’s family alleges that she was facing domestic violence since her marriage.
According to the police, Pramila died on Friday. But instead of informing the police or her parents, her in-laws allegedly buried the body in the courtyard of the house to hide the death. The matter came to light on Sunday when someone gave anonymous information to the police. Soon after, Pramila’s father reached Jenapur police station and lodged a complaint. Expressing suspicion of murder of his daughter, he demanded a complete investigation into the matter.
After this the police team reached the village and took out the body from the ground in the presence of officials. Inspector-in-charge (IIC) of Jenapur police station, Nirupama Jena, said, “We have sent the body for postmortem and are waiting for the report to know the cause of death. Besides, investigation is underway to find out the circumstances under which the incident took place.”
Initial investigation has revealed that there was a fierce argument between the husband and wife some time before Pramila’s death. The police have arrested the husband in this case. Later a local court rejected his bail plea and sent him to judicial custody. The investigation of the case is still going on.
