The Reasi District Police in Jammu and Kashmir has got a big success in the campaign against the fugitives. The police have arrested an accused, who was avoiding arrest in criminal cases related to terrorism for the last 18 years. According to the information, today, Reasi police have arrested fugitive Anwar Ali Chauhan (40), son Haji Nizam Deen Chauhan alias Jamshir. He was originally from Gujjar Kothian, Talwara, Reasi and currently from Kharpura, Anantnag.
Accused Anwar joined Hizbul Mujahideen (HM) terrorist organization in 2001 and was active for seven years. He later surrendered in Kashmir in 2007, but later became underground. After this, he continued to change his place so that arrests could be avoided, which was to be in cases related to several high-profile criminal and terrorism in the police station Reasi.
Many attempts to arrest failed
In the last few years, several attempts were made to arrest him by raiding his known locations in Gujjar cells, Chinor (Jammu) and Kherpora (Anantnag). As a result, the court was knocked on the door and action was initiated against it under sections 82 and 83 of CRPC. Despite these measures, his hideout could not be detected.
A special police team was formed on the instructions of SSP Paramveer Singh, SSP of Reasi. After much efforts and technical surveillance, the team developed an input and located and arrested him in a wild area near the Gujjar cells, Talwara.
Terrorists opened fire on police
Let us know that on January 5, 2006, a case was registered under Section 307, 120B, 121 (A) RPC and 7/27 Arms Act in Reasi. In this, during a search operation in Jad, Talwara forest area, some unknown terrorists opened fire on the police party and later fled under the guise of dense forest. A grenade was recovered from the scene. Anwar Ali’s involvement came to light in the investigation and a charge sheet was presented in the court under Section 512 of CRPC.
Death in grenade explosion
On April 7, 2006, an FIR was registered under sections 302, 307, 120B, 121 (A), 212, 216 RPC, 7/27 Arms Act and 3 JKPS Act. In this case, a hand grenade was thrown on a bus in Reasi’s Baradari, resulting in five people injured, later the then deputy SP headquarters Reasi’s father died due to injuries due to that grenade explosion.
During the investigation, two persons, Mumtaz Ali Chauhan and Anwar Ali Chauhan, both sons Haji Najiam Deen Chauhan, resident Gujjar Kothi, were presented in the court under Section 512 of CRPC against Talwara. While Mumtaz was arrested in 2007, Anwar Ali was absconding.
Police alert of peace and security
SSP Paramveer Singh said that the arrest of criminals involved in cases related to extremism is an important step to maintain peace and security in the area. He emphasized that the Reasi police is committed to ensuring justice and will continue to find and arrest the absconding criminals to face the trial in the court.
