Supreme Court Ram Mandir Case: The Supreme Court has taken a big step in the case of alleged irregularities in the donations of devotees in the Ram temple of Ayodhya. The apex court on Monday issued notice to the Central Government, Uttar Pradesh Government and Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Teerth Kshetra Trust. Along with this, the court has also sought the status report of the investigation so far from the Special Investigation Team (SIT) probing the case. The petitions demanding CBI investigation in this matter will be heard next week.

What did the Supreme Court say?

The bench headed by Chief Justice Surya Kant said during the hearing that the state government has already formed an SIT and the investigation is going on. In such a situation, the court first wants to see how far the investigation has reached. For this reason, SIT has been directed to file a detailed status report. The court also said that along with the progress of the investigation, information about the officers involved in the investigation team should also be given in the report.

To whom was the notice sent?

The Supreme Court has issued notice to the Central Government, Uttar Pradesh Government and Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Teerth Kshetra Trust in this matter. During the hearing, the Solicitor General opposed issuing notice to the Trust, but the court upheld the decision to issue notice to the Trust also.

Hearing next week on demand for CBI investigation

The petitioners have demanded a CBI investigation into this entire matter under court supervision. However, the Supreme Court has not yet given any final decision on this demand. The court said that first the SIT report will be seen, after that further demands will be considered. Now the next hearing of this case will be held next week.

The report will be given in a sealed envelope

During the hearing, the Central Government said that the SIT will submit its report to the court in a sealed cover. When the petitioners asked for a copy of the report, it was opposed. On this, the Chief Justice said that the law will proceed as per its procedure and the report can be seen when the time comes.

What is the whole matter of theft of Ram temple donations?

This case pertains to allegations of alleged irregularities in the cash and valuables offered by devotees in the Ram temple. After these allegations, the Uttar Pradesh government had formed a SIT under the chairmanship of Lucknow Divisional Commissioner Vijay Vishwas Pant on June 13. SIT had submitted its initial report to the government on June 23. However, due to the investigation not being completed, the government extended the tenure of the team by 15 days on July 1, so that the investigation could be completed.
