Industrialist N., who laid the foundation of Infosys, the country’s second largest IT company. Narayan Murthy is often in the news for his statements. Now he has given a big statement regarding the ‘free’ schemes being given by different governments in the country. He has talked about staying away from giving anything for free. Rather, it has been asked to take some returns from the people in exchange for free electricity, water or food grains.

In the country, from the central government to different state governments, many types of cash allowances and funds are being given to the people ranging from free ration, free electricity, free water, free bus travel, free treatment. Even in the recent assembly elections, political parties have promised to provide many free facilities and services, in such a situation this statement of Narayan Murthy is very important. He says that he is not against giving subsidy, but it should not be ‘absolutely free’, but something should be taken in return for it.

‘I am also from a poor family…’

N. Narayana Murthy was speaking at the Bengaluru Tech Summit here. He said, “The services and subsidies given to the people. In return, something should be asked from them in return, which will awaken in them the desire to do something for themselves and will be better for their future.”

Murthy said, “For example, if the government is giving free electricity to someone, then in return it can ask people to improve the attendance of their children in school, only then they will get free electricity. I am not against free services and subsidies. I understand this very well, because at one time I too came from a poor family. But getting some returns like this will be good for their future generations.”

‘There should be more taxes in India’

Narayana Murthy did not stop here, he said that if we have to create an effective and corruption-free system in India. So we will definitely have to pay more taxes, as is the case in developed countries. Personally, I have no problem if I have to pay more tax.
