Sawan Somwar Vrat 2026: The month of Sawan has been dedicated to Mahadev, the god of gods. There is a mythological belief that in this month itself, Bholenath had taken the poison that came out of the churning of the ocean in his throat. After this, the heat of the poison started increasing in the Lord’s body, then the gods performed Jalabhishek to provide him coolness. Since then the tradition of offering water to Shiva started in Saavan. There is a religious belief that by performing puja and Jalabhishek as per rituals in Sawan, Lord Shiva gets pleased soon and fulfills all the wishes of his devotees.

The special importance of Monday in Saavan has been mentioned in the scriptures. On this day, the fast of Sawan Monday is observed. Not only this, Shiva devotees also take a pledge to fast on 16 Mondays in this month. It is believed that by observing fast for 16 Mondays one gets a suitable groom and a suitable daughter. By observing this fast, happiness in married life remains. According to Drik Panchang, this year the month of Sawan will start from 30th July and will continue till the day of Sawan Purnima on 28th August, so let us know the dates of Monday fast.

The first Monday of Sawan is very special

This year, the first Monday of Sawan on 3rd August will be very special, because during this time Uttarbhadrapada and Revati Nakshatra will be there. In such a situation, the results of worshiping Lord Shiva, Rudrabhishek, chanting Mahamrityunjaya Mantra and Jalabhishek on this day will be many times more.
