Nirjala Ekadashi 2026: Nirjala Ekadashi fast is very painful… Maharishi Vedvyas had ordered Bhima to keep the fast, know the story.

Nirjala Ekadashi 2026

Nirjala Ekadashi story: Every year the fast of Nirjala Ekadashi is observed on the Ekadashi date of Shukla Paksha of Jyeshtha month. This year the fast of Nirjala Ekadashi is going to be observed on 25th June. This fast is considered to be the most difficult among all the Ekadashi fasts, because even water is not consumed in it. This is the reason why it is considered to be the Ekadashi fast that gives the best results.

There is a religious belief that by observing the fast of Nirjala Ekadashi and worshiping Lord Vishnu, one gets the results of all the Ekadashi fasts. Nirjala Ekadashi is also called Bhimseni Ekadashi. This is because Pandu’s son Bhima had observed the fast of Nirjala Ekadashi on the advice of Maharishi Vedvyas. Vedvyas ji has explained the importance of this fast. Let us know the story of Nirjala Ekadashi.

Story of Nirjala Ekadashi (Nirjala Ekadashi Ki Katha)

According to the legend, Bhimsen was more powerful among the Pandavas. He was very fond of eating. He could not bear hunger. That’s why he could never observe Ekadashi fast. Apart from Bhima, all the Pandavas and Draupadi used to observe the fast of 24 Ekadashis of the year with true heart. Once this weakness of Bhima troubled him. Bhima started thinking that he was insulting Shri Hari Vishnu by not observing Ekadashi fast.

For its solution, Bhima approached Maharishi Vyas. After listening to Bhima, Maharishi told him a solution. Vedvyas ji said that Bhim, there is no need for you to observe Ekadashi fast every month. Instead, you should observe the fast of Nirjala Ekadashi falling in the Shukla Paksha of Jyeshtha month. By sacrificing water on this day, you will be able to attain the virtue and salvation of all the 24 Ekadashis of the year.

After listening to Maharishi Vedvyas, Bhimsen observed Jyeshtha Shukla Ekadashi fast with full devotion. For this reason this fast is called Bhimseni Ekadashi. This fast is considered like penance. It is believed that the devotees who observe this fast with a true heart, all their sins are destroyed and they get a place in Vaikuntha Dham after death.
