New Delhi [भारत]July 6 (ANI): The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has arrested the project director of the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI), Shillong, and two private individuals in an alleged bribery case.

According to the release, the CBI had registered the case on July 1 against the accused NHAI official, a private individual and others on the basis of a complaint. The complaint alleged that the project director had demanded a bribe of Rs 12 lakh from the complainant to clear the outstanding bill of Rs 13.38 crore.

The accused government employee directed the complainant to pay Rs 4 lakh in advance and asked him to hand over the amount to a private person in Guwahati. The private person allegedly asked the complainant to give the money to another private person in the city.

CBI laid a trap and caught the accused private persons red-handed while demanding and accepting an advance bribe of Rs 4 lakh from the complainant. Subsequently, the accused project director and both the private individuals were arrested and searched at their respective premises. Further investigation is ongoing.

Assistant engineer arrested in another case

Earlier on Saturday, the CBI had arrested an Assistant Garrison Engineer of the Military Engineering Service from Manali, Himachal Pradesh in a bribery case. The accused assistant garrison engineer had demanded a bribe of Rs 93,000 from the complainant to pass the bills of his firm.

The complainant had made a partial payment of Rs 40,000 to the said accused in his office on July 3. The accused had asked the complainant to come to his office today with the remaining bribe amount of Rs 53 thousand.

CBI today laid a trap and caught the accused Assistant Garrison Engineer red-handed while demanding a total amount of Rs 93000 and accepting a partial bribe amount of Rs 53000 from the complainant.

The bribe amount of Rs 40,000 accepted by the accused yesterday has also been recovered from his residence in MES area of ​​Manali today. According to the release, searches are underway at his residence, and more cash worth around Rs 10 lakh has also been recovered so far. (ANI)
