The Indian Army has denied the media reports of Chinese Army infiltration and setting up of camps in Arunachal Pradesh, terming them as false and baseless. The Army said the situation along the China border remains stable but sensitive and the issues are being resolved through talks.
New Delhi [भारत]June 29 (ANI): The Indian Army on Monday refuted reports in a section of the media alleging infiltration and setting up of camps in Arunachal Pradesh by the Chinese People’s Liberation Army (PLA). The army has described these reports as “incorrect and baseless”.
The Indian Army said, “We have seen some media reports alleging recent infiltration and setting up of camps by the Chinese PLA in Arunachal Pradesh. These reports are false and have no basis.”
Issues being resolved through talks
India and China held the 35th meeting of the Working Mechanism for Consultation and Coordination (WMCC) on India-China border matters in Beijing last month. Later, a release from the Ministry of External Affairs said that the discussions were constructive and future-oriented. Both sides reviewed the situation in the India-China border areas and expressed satisfaction at the progress made in maintaining peace and tranquility in the border areas, which has enabled progress towards gradual normalization of bilateral relations. Both sides discussed issues related to demarcation, border management, mechanism building and cross-border cooperation. The Indian side stressed the early meeting of the next expert level mechanism on transboundary rivers.
Situation on China border stable but sensitive: General Dwivedi
Outgoing Army chief General Upendra Dwivedi on Monday said the situation along the China border is stable, though it remains sensitive, requiring constant vigilance. He said the two armies hold more than 1,100 ground-level interactions annually to prevent misunderstandings and resolve routine border issues.
Speaking to ANI, General Dwivedi said the disengagement agreements have significantly contributed to improving stability on the ground and both sides are showing greater responsiveness to each other’s concerns.
He said that “the overall situation is being managed through well-established mechanisms. Whenever local issues arise due to differing perceptions of the LAC, they are addressed through military-to-military talks, hotlines, flag meetings and commander-level talks. These mechanisms have helped in ensuring stability and facilitating routine activities including patrolling and other local interactions in the border areas.”
Army’s priorities clear
General Dwivedi said the Indian Army’s priorities are clear: “First, we have to maintain peace along the LAC. Second, we want to resolve local issues through dialogue and established mechanisms. Third, we are committed to maintaining a strong and credible deployment posture to deter any potential threat. At the same time, we continue to strengthen infrastructure, logistics, surveillance capabilities and overall operational preparedness along the northern borders.”
He said the Indian Army is committed to engagement and dialogue wherever necessary. “However, our approach is based on peace through strength. The Indian military posture along the LAC will remain firm, credible, alert and fully capable of safeguarding India’s territorial integrity and national interests.” (ANI)
