Skoda has the 4th generation Superb Sedan for the Indian market. When compared to the 3rd generation model on sale before, Skoda Superb will be offered with a Diesel engine, which was first showcased at the 2025 Bharat Mobility Expo. Unlike the Superb Diesel 4X4 shown last year, Skoda is only launching the FWD version.
New Skoda Superb TDI For India
Alongside the unveiling of Slavia facelift, Skoda also unveiled the 4th generation version of Superb TDI. This is the first time Skoda is bringing the Diesel back into their lineup after discontinuing the oil burners in 2020. Post that, Superb was only offered with a Petrol engine. There is a probability of Kodiaq Diesel in the future, if there is demand for one.
The 4th Gen Superb will be launched in India as a CBU (Completely Built Unit). It will directly take on the Toyota Camry, which remains the only other premium executive sedan in India from a mainstream carmaker. Thanks to India’s obsession with SUVs, sedans like Hyundai Sonata and Honda Accord have been missing in action.
Skoda is yet to announce the pricing of Superb, but is expected to be higher than Camry’s price which ranges between Rs 48.69 lakh and Rs 48.89 lakh (Ex-sh). It has to be noted that Camry is a locally assembled vehicle brought into the country via the CKD route (Completely Knocked Down).
New Superb diesel launch will take place by June 2027. The delay in launch and price announcement is due to the India-EU FTA which is set to come into effect in 2027, which could allow Skoda to price it competitively. Price is expected to be in the Rs 60 lakh range. Skoda Superb for India will be brought in via a single top-spec Laurin & Klement trim.
Design & Aesthetics
The colour Skoda showed for India is called Ice Tea and it lends a premium vibe. Other colours with Superb include Pebble Silver, Carmine Red, Cobalt Blue, Ebony Black, Graphite Grey, Energy Blue and Purity White. There are 18-inch alloy wheels along with Matrix LED headlights, large butterfly grille, C-shaped LED tail lights and the practical hatchback style tailgate.
4th Gen Superb measures 4,912 mm in length, 1,849 mm in width, 1,481 mm in height and has a 2,841 mm long wheelbase. The boot capacity behind the hatchback style powered tailgate is 645L, which is humongous and is loaded with practicality. There is even through-loading which extends beyond the rear centre armrest, allowing users to carry longer items.
Interiors & Space
On the inside, Superb is an executive affair through and through. We liked the fact that there’s no sunroof with the India-spec Skoda Superb, as India doesn’t need one to begin with. Glass area is large enough to make the interior look and feel spacious. For India Skoda is offering the ‘Sleep Package’ along with sunblinds for rear glass and rear windows. Also, there’s winged headrests as well.
We have to start with the rear seats as this is where the owner is probably gonna sit. There’s ample amount of kneeroom, headroom and even shoulder-room for three people to fit in. There’s three adjustable headrests, a centre armrest, premium Cognac leather seats, reading lights, decent under-thigh support (fixed), dedicated climate zone, rear sunshades and more. Doors have proper soft touch materials and door pockets get felt-lining even at the rear.
At the front, we get a sort-of similar theme as Kodiaq with many shared components, except for the AC vents design and overall shape of the dashboard. The same 12.9-inch infotainment screen, digital driver’s cockpit, ambient lighting, 14-speaker Canton audio system, 10 airbags, 360-degree cameras, Level-2 ADAS and more.
The front dashboard and door trims are also soft touch and felt-lined door pockets extend to the front too. Below the infotainment screen, we have the smart multi-function dials with integrated displays which we first saw with Kodiaq. Front seats are more sophisticated than the rear as they are heated, ventilated and massaging along with being power adjustable with 3 memory settings and then has extendable under-thigh support.
Powertrain, Misses
Where powertrains are concerned, there is only one combination. A 2.0L TDI Diesel engine with 147 bhp of peak power and 360 Nm of peak torque, mated to a 7-speed DSG transmission option, driving only the front wheels as it is a FWD vehicle and not AWD. This will be Skoda’s first Diesel vehicle for the Indian market after 6-7 years, depending on when it will launch.
While the Superb coming back to India is big news and Skoda Diesels making a comeback is bigger news, there are a few things we wished were different with Superb. For starters, we wish rear seat occupants got more goodies to play with. Like powered recline for rear seats, rear ventilated seats, rear massaging seats which the lower tier Slavia gets. Some sort of rear entertainment package would have gone a long way too.
