Kia’s first hybrid for India and its new flagship ICE SUV, Sorento is available at a starting price of Rs 27.99 lakh
After introducing the earlier this month, Kia has commenced its deliveries. The first owner has taken delivery from Malwa Kia, which operates multiple Kia outlets across Haryana and Delhi. Deliveries at other locations across India are expected to start soon. Sorento competes with rivals like , Skoda Kodiaq, Volkswagen Tayron and Jeep Meridian.
Kia Sorento – Exterior highlights
Sorento is 4,815 mm long, 1,900 mm wide and 1,785 mm tall. It has a wheelbase of 2,815 mm. These dimensions make Sorento one of the largest in its class. The SUV blends a boxy silhouette with flowing curves, creating a distinctive and well-balanced design. Key features include Kia’s signature digital tiger face, vertically stacked Crystal Cube LED projector headlamps with auto light control, starmap LED DRLs and additional lighting elements on the bumper.
Side profile has smooth, circular wheel arches, seamless cladding, body coloured grab handles with touch sensor, dual tone ORVMs and a slightly tapering roofline. Sorento has chrome garnish on the windows, sporty alloy wheels, blacked-out B and C pillars and robust roof rails. At the rear, Sorento has a raked windshield, roof mounted spoiler with wide brake lights, starmap LED tail lamps and dual tone bumper.
Interior features
Kia Sorento is equipped with a comprehensive range of premium features. It has a dual pane panoramic sunroof and dual 12.3-inch HD screens for the infotainment and instrument cluster. A head-up display is also integrated with the digital instrument cluster. It projects info onto the windscreen. Other key features include a 12-speaker Bose premium sound system, 64 colour ambient lighting and dual zone automatic temperature control.
Sorento has front row relaxation comfort seats, 10-way power driver seat with Ergo Motion, leatherette wrapped steering wheel, leatherette seats and leatherette soft touch door trim. Users can control various functions via voice commands, which is powered by Kia AI assistant, a real-time generative AI. Safety package includes 10 airbags, front and rear parking sensors and rear view camera with dynamic guidelines.
Safety kit also includes a 360 degree camera, side parking sensors and blind view monitor. ADAS option is available with select variants. Sorento HTK (A) trim has ADAS Level 2 with 21 autonomous features. HTX (A) AWD has ADAS Level 2+ with 29 autonomous features. Kia Sorento has a 5-star rating in Euro NCAP crash tests.
Powertrain options
Kia is offering Sorento with a 2.2-litre diesel engine and a petrol hybrid powertrain. The diesel unit generates 193 PS and 442 Nm of torque. It is paired with an 8-speed DCT transmission. The hybrid setup comprises a 1.6-litre turbo petrol engine and an electric motor. Output is 180 PS and 265 Nm with the turbo petrol engine and 65 PS and 264 Nm with the electric motor.
Sorento hybrid uses a 6AT transmission. Both diesel and hybrid variants are available in AWD and 2WD configurations. Drive modes include Eco, Sport, Smart and Normal. AWD variants have terrain modes of Snow, Mud and Sand. With Sorento deliveries now underway, it will be interesting to see how its sales numbers stack up in the coming months.
