For a break from the mountains, Chitwan National Park offers a completely different side of Nepal. Located in the southern Terai region, the UNESCO-listed park is known for dense forests, grasslands, wetlands and river habitats.
Visitors can go on jeep safaris, canoe along the Rapti River or explore the forest with guides. The park is home to Bengal tigers, one-horned rhinoceroses, crocodiles, elephants and numerous bird species.
The surrounding area also provides an opportunity to experience the traditions of the Tharu community.
