Congress MLA Vinesh Phogat supported the students protesting against NEET-UG paper leak. He condemned the police action at Jantar Mantar on July 20 and appealed to the students to remain non-violent. CJP has demanded the resignation of the Education Minister.
New Delhi [भारत]July 23 (ANI): Congress MLA and former Olympian Vinesh Phogat on Thursday extended her support to the students protesting over the NEET-UG paper leak. He condemned the police action at Jantar Mantar and urged the protesters not to abandon the path of non-violence.
In a post on X, Phogat said that the images from the July 20 protests have deeply disturbed her. He alleged that the students demanding justice faced force instead of support. He wrote, “Students were raising their voice for their rights in a democratic manner at Jantar Mantar. However, the pictures that emerged from there on July 20 deeply disturbed me. When the students of the country took to the streets for their future, their rights and their dreams, they were welcomed not with respect, but with fear and violence.”
Questions raised on police action
The Congress leader further alleged that the dignity of the girl students was violated during the police action. pic.twitter.com/jzeAIyiAqq — Vinesh Phogat (@Phogat_Vinesh) July 23, 2026 “The dignity of the girl students was violated under the guise of use of force; all limits of decency were crossed in their treatment. So then, to whom should these students go for justice? To those who are responsible for their safety, or to those who hold the reins of power?” He said.
Appeal not to leave the path of non-violence
Appealing to the students to maintain discipline despite the provocations, Phogat wrote, “The entire country is with you in this fight for your rights. But I also want to make a request to all of you: Whatever happens, do not leave the path of non-violence. It is possible that the government will do everything possible to derail, discredit or break your movement… Your greatest strength is your patience, your discipline and your peaceful struggle.”
He concluded his message by referring to freedom fighter Bhagat Singh, “History is taking a new turn… Even today, a Bhagat Singh lives in the heart of every youth… We have full faith: We will fight and we will win.”
CJP demands nationwide demonstration
His comments came when the Cockroach Janata Party (CJP), which is leading the protests over the NEET-UG 2026 paper leak, called for a nationwide peaceful demonstration on Friday demanding the resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan. CJP urged student unions and organizations across the country to organize peaceful protests and read the demands of the students.
Meanwhile, CJP chief spokesperson Saurav Das reiterated that Pradhan’s resignation is “non-negotiable” and said the agitation will continue until the demands are met.
At the same time, the government has expressed willingness to discuss with student representatives, but has also said that the NEET issue should be debated in Parliament without any pre-condition. (ANI)
