The chain of paper leaks started from Pune and reached many states.
CBI inquiry has revealed that allegedly the question paper of NEET-UG 2026 was first purchased from Pune and then spread to Rajasthan, Haryana and Maharashtra. According to sources, the hard copy of the leaked paper reached Shubham Khemer of Nashik to Yash Yadav, a resident of Gurugram, Haryana. After this it reached Sikar in Rajasthan, from where it was spread to other states through social media platforms and coaching networks. Investigating agencies believe that the paper was not only forwarded, but it was also systematically circulated among different groups.
WhatsApp and Telegram groups become the center of investigation
CBI is now investigating the digital routes through which the paper was allegedly shared. The investigating agency has seized mobile phones, laptops and other digital devices from the accused. These devices have been sent to the Central Forensic Science Laboratory for further forensic investigation. The agency is trying to recover deleted WhatsApp and Telegram chats. The investigating officers are now trying to find out through mobile numbers, social media groups and IP addresses, to whom the paper reached and from which location it was forwarded.
Increased investigation on names related to Sikar
CBI investigation has revealed that the alleged role of two brothers named Mangilal and Dinesh has come to light in this case. According to sources, Dinesh is also said to be associated with a political organization. It is alleged that Dinesh obtained “Guess Paper” from Yash Yadav by taking money and later sold it to about 10 students in Sikar for cash. Investigation has also revealed that Vikas, who is said to be Dinesh’s son, was preparing for NEET in Sikar and this alleged paper was passed on to his friends also. However, the investigating agencies are still confirming all the allegations and matching the digital evidence.
CBI’s cyber unit is busy tracking IP addresses.
Considering the seriousness of the case, the cyber team of CBI is now focusing specifically on technical investigation. The investigating agency is trying to find out what was the location of the concerned user at the time when the chats or messages were sent. For this the help of IP address and call detail record (CDR) is being taken. CBI is also preparing a separate list of common numbers present in the contact list of the five arrested accused. From this, efforts are being made to find out whether this network was already working as a big organized gang.
Investigation of bank accounts and money transactions also
According to sources, CBI has sent letters to the concerned banks to collect bank details of the accused. The agency is trying to find out to which account the money was transferred instead of selling or buying the paper. Apart from this, the financial activities of those people who were involved in the examination process at some level are also being investigated.
NTA officials also interrogated
To find the source of the paper leak, CBI has also interrogated the officials of the National Testing Agency at length. According to sources, the investigating agency has sought information about the people involved in the process of paper preparation, printing, safe storage and delivery of papers to different states. It is being told that more than 50 such people have been identified, whose responsibility was to complete the examination process safely. Now their call details, bank records and contact with the suspects are being investigated.
Interrogation of students also continues
CBI is also interrogating those students to whom the leaked paper allegedly reached. The investigating agency is trying to understand in which format the paper was sent, who converted it into PDF and in which groups the password protected files were shared. Investigating officials believe that the real picture of this entire network can become clearer after digital data recovery.
