Kainchi Dham Foundation Day 2026: The famous Kainchi Dham of Nainital district, situated in the beautiful valleys of Uttarakhand, has today become a major center of faith for devotees not only in the country but all over the world. Every year on 15 June, a crowd of lakhs of devotees gather here, because on this day Baba Neem Karoli Maharaj established Kainchi Dham in the year 1964. This is the reason why this day is considered no less than a festival for Baba’s devotees. On the occasion of the foundation day, a huge bhandara, bhajan-kirtan and special puja are organized in the Dham. After all, how did Kainchi Dham get its name?
On hearing the name of Kainchi Dham, the question that comes to people’s mind is why this place is called Kainchi. Actually, this Dham is situated between two hills, which look like scissors i.e. two blades of scissors. For this reason this place was named Kainchi Dham. It is said that Baba Neem Karoli had realized the spiritual power of this place and chose it for sadhana and service. And what makes this true is the deep faith the devotees have in this place, where people feel a different peace as soon as they reach there.
Who was Baba Neem Karoli Maharaj?
Baba Neem Karoli Maharaj is considered to be a great devotee of Hanuman ji. His life is said to be very simple, mysterious and full of miracles. Devotees fondly call him Maharaj Ji. It is said that Baba had such divine powers with which he could remove the sufferings of the people. Baba has lakhs of followers in the country and abroad. The big thing is that the number of devotees of Baba Neem Karoli is very high not only in India but also in foreign countries.
The famous story of converting water into ghee
Many miraculous stories related to Kainchi Dham are still famous among the devotees. The most popular story among these is considered to be that of converting water into ghee. It is said that once there was shortage of ghee during the Bhandara. Then Baba asked the servants to bring water from the river and pour it into the pan. According to the devotees, by the grace of Baba, that water turned into ghee and the Bhandara was completed without any interruption. Devotees consider this incident as proof of Baba’s divine power.
When the foundation of Kainchi Dham was laid
June 15 is a historic day for the devotees of Baba Neem Karoli. It is the year 1962, when Baba Neem Karoli came to this place for the first time. Local saint Kashmiri Baba was also with him. Baba Neem Karoli loved this place so much that he thought of building an ashram here. Exactly two years later, on June 15, 1964, the idol of Hanuman ji was consecrated in the ashram. Kainchi Dham was formally established on this day. From then till today, every year 15th June is celebrated with great pomp as Kainchi Dham Foundation Day.
The Foundation Day fair held in Kainchi Dham is very grand. On this day, not only Uttarakhand, but people from different states of the country reach here. Many devotees stand in line throughout the night to have darshan of Baba. It is believed that whichever devotee comes to Baba’s court with a true heart, his wishes are definitely fulfilled. This is the reason why the number of devotees coming here is continuously increasing every year.
