The dispute that started between South actor Dhanush and actress Nayanthara over the use of footage does not seem to be ending. Dhanush has filed a civil suit against Nayanthara for using visuals of his film Naanum Rowdy Dhaan in the Netflix documentary without permission. She has filed this petition in the Madras High Court against Nayanthara and her husband filmmaker Vignesh Sivan.
According to the report of The Hindu, Dhanush’s production house company Wunderbar Films Private Limited has reached court against Nayanthara, Vignesh and their company Rowdy Pictures Private Limited. The petition alleges that he has used visuals from the film Naanum Rowdy Dhaan in Netflix’s docu-drama Nayanthara: Beyond the Fairytale.
Dhanush’s company has also filed an application in the High Court, seeking approval to prosecute the case against Los Gatos Production Services India LLP. This is the same company through which Netflix reports its content investment in India. Since Los Gatos is a Mumbai based company, Dhanush appealed to the High Court to use Clause 12 of the Letters Patent.
Answer sought from Nayanthara
In this case, Madras High Court heard and approved the preliminary arguments of both the parties. The court said that the major reason for this case falls within the jurisdiction of the High Court. According to the report, now Nayanthara will have to answer the notice at the next hearing.
What is the controversy?
Recently Nayanthara shared a long open letter on her social media handle. In this letter addressed to Dhanush, the actress had accused Dhanush of not allowing her to use the visuals. Nayanthara had claimed that she had edited the documentary when the visuals were not approved and did not use any footage related to the film. He said that Dhanush had sent him a legal notice of Rs 10 crore for using three-second visuals.
Tamil film Naanum Rowdy Dhaan was released in the year 2015. In this, Nayanthara and Vijay Sethupathi were seen in lead roles. The film was directed by Vignesh Shivan. During this film, Vignesh Shivan and Nayanthara came closer and both got married in 2022.
