Shakurbasti station will change its appearance
Shakurbasti railway station of Delhi has undergone large scale development work during the last few years. According to sources, in future some important trains coming to and from New Delhi Railway Station may be shifted to Shakurbasti station. Along with this, there is also discussion going on about changing the name of the station. It is being told that its new name could be “Rani Bagh” or a name related to some other local identity. However, no official announcement has been made yet regarding the name change.
Bijwasan station will become a new railway hub
Bijwasan railway station located in the south-west part of Delhi is also being developed on a large scale. According to the plan, operational activities can be expanded here from October. According to railway officials, some trains operating from Old Delhi and Sarai Rohilla stations may be shifted to Bijwasan in future. Even if the name of the station is not changed, there is a possibility of adding the word “Delhi” in front of it.
According to senior railway officials, adding “Delhi” to the names of some other stations in the capital is also being considered. These mainly include:
- Sadar Bazar Railway Station
- Adarsh Nagar Railway Station
- Patel Nagar Railway Station
- Tilak Bridge Railway Station
Railways believes that this will make it easier for passengers to understand the geographical identity of the station and will give a unified identity to Delhi’s railway network.
Who has the right to change the names of stations?
According to the current system, the final authority to change the names of railway stations rests with the Home Ministry. The Railway Ministry cannot directly change the name of any station. However, sources say that to simplify this process, consideration is being given to giving this authority to the Railway Ministry. If this happens then the name change process may become relatively faster in future.
Project worth Rs 2650 crore, target to complete by 2029
A project worth about Rs 2650 crore is being worked on for the redevelopment of New Delhi Railway Station. The aim of this project is to completely modernize the station by the year 2029. After redevelopment, the station will be developed as a multi-level transport hub with better integration of railway, metro, bus and other public transport services.
New Delhi railway station will look like airport
Railways plans to equip New Delhi Railway Station with world class facilities. After completion of the project, the design of the station will look like a modern airport. Under the new system, capacity will be developed to handle the movement of about 7 lakh passengers per day. Special attention will be given to providing better entry and exit arrangements, modern waiting rooms, digital facilities and better connectivity to the passengers.
