The government’s preparations for Uniform Civil Code in Madhya Pradesh have intensified. Suggestions were taken from political parties, religious leaders and commissions in the meeting held in Bhopal.
Bhopal. Madhya Pradesh government is intensifying preparations for Uniform Civil Code (UCC) in the state. In this sequence, the high level committee formed to study, test and collect suggestions on various aspects of UCC organized a state level meeting on June 22 at the Academy of Administration, Bhopal. In the meeting, detailed discussions were held with representatives of various social, religious, political and government organizations and their ideas and suggestions were obtained.
UCC Committee Meeting: Experts and committee members heard different sides
High level committee member and former Chief Secretary of Uttarakhand Shatrughan Singh, educationist Gopal Sharma, Dr. Shobha Vethankar, senior advocate Anup Nair and social worker Buddha Pal Singh were present in the meeting. The committee seriously recorded the oral and written suggestions received from various organizations, departments and citizens. Many topics related to marriage, divorce, child rights, adoption process and family laws were mainly included in the suggestions. The committee sought the opinions of different sections on these issues.
Madhya Pradesh UCC: Commissions and departments put forward their suggestions
During the meeting, many organizations including Madhya Pradesh Child Protection Commission, Human Rights Commission, State Women Commission, Backward Classes Commission, Tribal Commission and Vanvasi Vikas Sangh presented their suggestions before the committee. Apart from this, Tribal Affairs Department, Home Department, Women and Child Development Department, Revenue Department, Education Department, Public Health Department and Jail Department also gave presentations. The departments shared information on possible impacts and coordination of the Uniform Civil Code with its various schemes and provisions.
Political Parties Suggestions on UCC: Political parties also expressed their views
Representatives of various political parties also participated in this meeting organized regarding the Uniform Civil Code. Officials of other parties including Bharatiya Janata Party, Indian National Congress, CPIM and Marxist Communist Party submitted their suggestions to the committee. The committee discussed various social and legal aspects, recording the views of all parties.
Religious Leaders Opinion on UCC: Opinion taken from religious leaders and citizens also
Religious leaders from Hindu, Muslim, Sikh, Christian and Buddhist communities also participated in the meeting. They presented the views and suggestions of their respective communities before the committee. After this the committee also interacted with the public representatives, citizens and representatives of social organizations of Bhopal district. Those who gave suggestions included MLAs, representatives of various religious institutions and other prominent citizens. The committee will study all these suggestions and prepare its report.
