MP News: Is your opinion important on Uniform Civil Code? Can you participate in policy making by giving suggestions by 22 June? Will UCC be discussed in every village? Will the government take decisions based on public opinion? Chief Minister Mohan Yadav has instructed collectors to intensify the awareness campaign and collect as many suggestions as possible.

Bhopal. Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Dr. Mohan Yadav on June 13 reviewed the awareness campaign being run regarding the Uniform Civil Code (UCC). He held a meeting with all the district collectors through video conferencing and gave instructions to further expand the campaign. The Chief Minister said that policies related to Uniform Civil Code will be prepared on the basis of suggestions and ideas received from the people of the state. Therefore, it is important to ensure participation of maximum people.

He directed that people from urban areas to villages should be made aware on this subject and they should be motivated to give their suggestions. The Chief Minister said that the opinion of every section of the society is important for better policy making.

Discussion programs should be held in schools, colleges, bar councils and social organizations.

Chief Minister Dr. Yadav said that discussion sessions should be organized in schools, colleges, business organizations, social organizations and forums like Bar Council in urban areas. Through these programs, people should be given information about the Uniform Civil Code and they should be urged to share their views. He also said that government officers and employees should also give their suggestions on this subject so that they can get the benefit of administrative experiences in policy making.

Emphasis on special Gram Sabha and public dialogue in villages

The Chief Minister directed that Panchayat Secretaries, Employment Assistants and other local employees should promote dialogue on this subject among the people in rural areas. If necessary, special village meetings can also be organised. He told all the district collectors that this campaign should be conducted on priority basis and information about it should be made available to as many people as possible.

UCC suggestion portal launched, opinions can be sent till June 22

Chief Minister Dr. Mohan Yadav said that the state government has started a special portal ucc.mp.gov.in to give suggestions regarding the Uniform Civil Code. Citizens can register their suggestions on this portal till June 22. He said that the process of giving suggestions has been kept completely simple. General information like name, gender, religion, division, district, address and mobile number has to be filled in the form available on the website. After this, 12 questions have to be answered in ‘yes’ or ‘no’. The suggestion is successfully submitted after mobile OTP verification. During the meeting, the Chief Minister also received information about the ongoing awareness activities in various districts.

Role of women groups and social organizations will be important

The Chief Minister said that active participation of public representatives is necessary to provide information about the purpose, process and possible effects of the Uniform Civil Code to the general public. He also directed to increase awareness through self-help groups, Mahila Mandals and social organizations.

High level committee is studying and compiling suggestions

It is noteworthy that various provisions related to marriage, divorce, maintenance, succession and family laws are being studied extensively in the state. In view of the need to create a uniform and effective legal framework on these subjects, the state government has constituted a high level committee. This committee is preparing its recommendations after studying the legal, social and administrative aspects related to the Uniform Civil Code. The committee members are also visiting various districts and motivating people to give suggestions.
